Her Story

About Rose

I began my podcast in January 2026 after retiring from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, where I worked for 5 years. Before that, I worked for the school district. As I was nearing retirement age, I decided to work for the department to build up my retirement, and I had to have a plan in mind and accumulate some assets. My podcast is called Women at the Well Rejoice, and it focuses on empowerment and speaking life and faith into women. I work on my podcast Mondays and Tuesdays, on Wednesdays I record and upload, and on Thursdays and Fridays it's health work. The biggest challenge right now is getting my podcast out there and getting more people to listen. The biggest opportunity from this podcast could be a public speaking platform, and that's where I see this perhaps going. I believe that faith and grief can walk hand in hand, and as women, sometimes we tend to keep quiet and be solid about our hope, and we don't have a good friendship circle. I want to provide a platform that discusses empowerment and speaks life and faith into women, so more women can hear this message.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I would give anyone is don't be so quick to move. Sometimes in the workforce, things don't go our way and people don't make us feel good. And when we can find the opportunity to move to another job, we do that. This is one of those generations that they don't take any stuff - I have a degree, and you're not gonna talk to me like that, because I can go somewhere else. But you might just stay right there so you can make a change in what's happening right there. Because when you leave, there's somebody else to come along that they're gonna treat the same exact way. They haven't learned anything because you left. So now someone else is gonna come along and they will be treated the same exact way. Stay there and make a difference if you can. Make them think differently. Let them respect you.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Have faith. Don't get discouraged. Don't let nobody shake your spirit. Keep your eye on whatever your goal is. If your goal in the correction department is promotion, I don't care what's going on around you, keep your eye on being promoted. In the podcast, I don't care how many numbers you don't have, keep your eye on your goal. And keep your faith. Keep believing in you that you can do this, that you can accomplish this.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think the biggest challenge is getting my podcast out there, getting more people to listen. The biggest opportunity from this podcast could be a public speaking platform. I'm visualizing, and that's where I see this perhaps going. That's where I would like for it to go.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think the most important value for me is honesty. Not only being honest to myself, but being honest with others. Because I think a lot of times, in work and in home, sometimes we tend to sugar coat things to keep the peace, to keep people liking us. And then we internalize all these sugar coats, and they're killing us on the inside. I've learned that it's important to be honest, but you have to know how to say things in love and with grace.
