Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance and a focus on being knowledge-driven rather than money-driven. As a project manager for the HireVue initiative for my agency, I was awarded the Leadership Award for Serving the Motoring Public. This initiative helped to streamline recruiter processes, drawing on both my practical experience and academic foundation, which includes a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources Management and Services from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master’s degree from Street University. Beyond my professional work, I am a two-time published author, having written Full Circles and Stop Trying to Turn Red Flags Pink, and I actively share insights and resources through my website and social media platforms.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to embrace authenticity and use personal experiences to create value for others. As a writer, I share real-life dating experiences to help readers recognize red flags and navigate relationships wisely. Through a candid and relatable approach, I aim to guide others through the highs and lows of modern dating, and I invite readers to explore my insights further in my publications.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering my industry is to trust your instincts, recognize patterns, and stay true to yourself, even when situations seem challenging. Just as I explore in my book Stop Trying to Turn Red Flags Pink: Experiences in Dating, it’s important to notice warning signs early and make choices that protect your well-being. Similarly, in Full Circle, I share how patience, forgiveness, and embracing second chances led to personal and relational growth. I encourage young women to approach their careers with the same mindset—learn from experiences, set boundaries, and never compromise your values. By being observant, resilient, and intentional, you can navigate challenges wisely and create a path that is authentic and fulfilling.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities in HR today is utilizing AI to our advantage in our everyday tasks. Some see AI as a threat but you have to learn how to incorporate it in your work.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are perseverance, growth, and authentic leadership. With over 21 years in the HR field, my journey from receptionist to HR assistant and beyond taught me the importance of starting at the bottom, learning diligently, and embracing every opportunity to grow. I am deeply committed to supporting and empowering others, a principle I learned in part from my former boss, Carol Ann Lawson, who helped me regain confidence and develop my leadership skills. I lead with a hands-on approach, prioritize the development of my team, and believe that fostering trust, confidence, and collaboration is key to meaningful success.
