Her Interview

Ten minutes with Roshni

01What do you attribute your success to?

I have been raised by women warriors. I lost my mother 2 years ago. She was raised by my grandmother who was a widow at a very early age in India and started employment later. My mom was a working woman who balanced family life, work, and personal responsibilities even after giving birth to two children. My father, a feminist, supported my mom and me. I saw an upbringing with values of never giving up, and my parents never told me that as a woman something was not possible. My brother and I were given equal opportunities, equal rights, and equal platforms.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be afraid. Be bold, be fearless. Don't be afraid to express your opinions. It's very important to be heard, it's very important to be seen, so you will have to make that first move. In the pharmaceutical industry, there are so many women leaders sitting in the C-suite that inspires me each day to think, why shouldn't I? Why can't I? Women should help other women. That sisterhood to expand and grow so that we are able to rely on each other and have our backs. Go forward, don't hesitate, even if you are walking into a room of men. Move the needle. You can make that paradigm shift.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Opportunities: Plenty with AI coming into play with data in pharmaceutical industry. There is so much patient data, physician data, specialty pharmacy data. You can do so much with AI and grow into achieving something spectacular. Challenges: It's a double-edged sword. People focus more on AI, automation, machine learning, but in this sensitive field human intervention is much appreciated. People need to have sensitivity, understanding, develop sensibilities towards having balance. Not just focus on the direct objective but understand the peripherals better.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

To begin with, honesty. Have that integrity to do the right thing, encourage the right thing, support the right thing. In this day and age, it's very important to have calm composure because there's a lot of chaos, negativity, and access to information. Maintaining cool and believing in yourself that yes, I am here to create a mark for myself. Having that belief, having that perseverance that yes, I too shall shine even if there are tough days. Having a laser-sharp focus to achieve what you want, having that determination, and staying till that last second of defeat.
