Her Story

About Rosy

Rosy Arcano-Calvo is an accomplished educator, school leader, and early childhood education entrepreneur with more than four decades of experience dedicated to improving the lives of children and strengthening families through quality education. As the Owner and Executive Director of My Little Red Schoolhouse, she oversees an accredited early learning center that serves children from infancy through elementary age, earning recognition for its commitment to academic excellence, innovative programming, and nurturing learning environments. Her passion for education began in childhood and has remained the driving force behind a career defined by service, leadership, and community impact.

Before transitioning into private education, Rosy spent over 35 years with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, progressing from classroom teacher to principal and district leader. As Principal of Miami Lakes K-8 Center, she successfully led the school's conversion from an elementary school to a K-8 campus, oversaw major facility renovations and curriculum development, and maintained the school's A+ state designation for 15 consecutive years. Her exceptional leadership earned her the prestigious Miami-Dade County Public Schools District Principal of the Year award in 2009. She also served as Lead Principal for the Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior Feeder Pattern, contributing to district-wide initiatives in educational leadership, budgeting, labor relations, and school improvement.

Rosy holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Florida International University. She is a State of Florida Certified Principal, National Child Care Director, National Childcare Consultant, and certified educator with expertise spanning K-12 administration, early childhood education, teacher development, curriculum innovation, and family engagement. Guided by her faith, commitment to family unity, and deep compassion for others, she continues to inspire educators, mentor childcare professionals, and expand opportunities for children through her vision of educational excellence.

Ten minutes with Rosy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my passion for what I do. I am deeply committed to educating children, strengthening families, and creating positive change in people’s lives. Helping parents become more confident and supporting families in building better futures brings me a great sense of purpose and joy.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received was from my administrators, who encouraged me to step into a leadership role and pursue becoming an administrator. Their belief in my abilities inspired me to take that next step, and I was able to achieve that goal quickly while continuing to grow as a leader.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to make sure this is truly the path they are passionate about and committed to pursuing. This work requires dedication, purpose, and a genuine desire to make a difference. Take time to reflect on your goals, strengths, and interests to ensure this is the career that will bring you fulfillment.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is that compensation remains relatively low, especially considering the cost of earning the education and credentials required. At the same time, the profession offers an excellent work-life balance and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. For those with an entrepreneurial mindset, opening and operating their own school or educational program can also provide greater financial opportunities.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My faith is the foundation of both my work and personal life, and I believe in putting everything in God's hands. I also value the importance of family, unity, and strong relationships. Above all, I strive to help others whenever I can, leading with empathy, compassion, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in their lives.
