Her Story
About Rowena
I began my career in operations in 2004 and have spent more than two decades leading teams, building processes, and helping organizations grow. Today, I serve as CEO of Luckwell Business Solutions, a global outsourcing company I founded in 2016. What started as a small healthcare-focused operation has grown into a multi-industry organization with over 300 team members. Scaling this company through the challenges of the pandemic taught me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and investing in people.
In 2020, I co-founded Modern Way Consultancy with my husband, Mark, to help entrepreneurs and small to mid-sized businesses scale sustainably. Our mission is to give business owners the operational structure, systems, and global talent they need so they can focus on leadership, strategy, and impact. My current focus is expanding strategic partnerships, building innovative service models, and creating opportunities for professionals in the Philippines and beyond.
Before launching my companies, I worked at Tesla as a Regional Operations Manager covering the Western United States. I managed operations across 25 states, stood up new locations, led process improvement initiatives, and worked closely with legal, finance, and corporate teams. Earlier in my career, I held leadership roles in banking and transportation, where I developed a strong foundation in financial operations and performance management.
I moved to the United States in 2013 and had to rebuild my career from the ground up. Despite years of leadership experience, I started in an entry-level role and worked my way back into management within two years. This experience shaped my leadership philosophy—one grounded in humility, discipline, and a deep appreciation for growth through adversity.
Beyond business, I am passionate about community and mentorship. I am actively involved with Women of Purpose United (WOPU), supporting initiatives focused on mental health, entrepreneurship, and empowering women. I am also part of the Powerteam International community, where I collaborate with entrepreneurs and leaders committed to personal and professional growth. In addition, I support an orphanage in the Philippines, which remains close to my heart and reflects my commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation.
At this stage in my journey, my goal is not only to scale companies but to build a legacy—one that creates meaningful work, empowers people, and bridges opportunities between the United States and the Philippines.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Rowena
01What do you attribute your success to?
I truly believe that success is never built alone. I attribute mine to my family and the people who stand behind our mission at Luckwell and Modern Way. My husband and family have been my foundation, especially through the challenges of entrepreneurship.
At the same time, our teams in the Philippines are the driving force of our growth. Their work ethic, loyalty, and belief in our vision have made it possible for us to scale and deliver real impact. Every milestone we reach reflects their hard work and the culture we’ve built together.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received was to build grit and resilience, because success is rarely about talent alone—it’s about staying in the game long enough to learn, grow, and adapt. I’ve learned that every challenge is part of the process, and setbacks are often where the biggest breakthroughs happen.
Equally important is recognizing that you don’t have to know everything. One of the most powerful things you can do as a leader is to surround yourself with people who are stronger than you in areas outside your skill set. That mindset has helped me build teams that complement my strengths and continuously push me to grow.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to be bold. For many years, women were not always seen as leaders or decision-makers, but today we have proven time and again that we have the same capabilities and leadership potential as anyone else. The opportunity is there—it just requires the confidence to step into it.
For women entrepreneurs specifically, I encourage them to scale intelligently. Your most valuable and limited asset is your time. Many of us try to do everything ourselves because we want things done a certain way, but that approach eventually becomes the biggest bottleneck. The earlier you learn to delegate, the faster you grow. Delegation is not a luxury—it is a leadership skill.
When you free yourself from day-to-day operational tasks, you create space to think strategically, build relationships, and grow your business. The goal is not to work harder, but to work smarter and build systems that allow you to scale with intention.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is balancing growth with alignment. As a company scales, it’s not just about having a strong vision—it’s about making sure that vision is clearly understood and embraced by the people who are responsible for executing it. If the mission and direction are not consistently communicated, it becomes difficult to build momentum and move the organization forward.
For me, culture is the foundation of sustainable growth. My focus today is on building a leadership team that shares the same values, passion, and sense of ownership. I welcome diverse perspectives and innovative ideas, but alignment on purpose and direction is critical. When leaders are rowing in the same direction, the organization can move faster, make better decisions, and create long-term impact.
The opportunity in this moment is that companies that invest early in culture, leadership development, and clarity of vision will have a significant competitive advantage as industries continue to evolve.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The two values that guide both my work and personal life are integrity and compassion. Integrity means doing the right thing even when it’s difficult or when no one is watching. It shapes how I make decisions, how I lead, and how I build trust with clients, partners, and my team. In business, your reputation is your currency, and I believe long-term success comes from consistency, transparency, and accountability.
Compassion is equally important because behind every role, every client, and every transaction is a human story. I lead with empathy and try to understand the challenges people are facing, whether it’s my team in the Philippines, our clients building their businesses, or families navigating difficult seasons. Compassion allows me to balance high performance with humanity, and it helps create a culture where people feel supported, respected, and motivated to grow.
