About Roxana
Roxana (Roxy) Petty is the Executive Director of AHA (Attitude Harmony Achievement), a Santa Barbara-based nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing youth mental health, social-emotional learning, and community well-being. With more than 20 years of professional experience spanning nonprofit leadership, financial services, wealth management, customer relations, operations, and organizational development, she has built a career centered on helping individuals and communities thrive. During her 12 years with AHA, including the past six years as Executive Director, Roxana has helped lead the organization's remarkable growth from serving fewer than 2,500 individuals annually to nearly 10,000 middle and high school students, along with their parents and educators. Through innovative school-based and community programs, AHA provides social-emotional learning, free therapeutic counseling, leadership development, mentoring, creative arts, music, and wellness initiatives that foster resilience, empathy, and meaningful human connection.
Before entering the nonprofit sector, Roxana spent a decade in the financial services industry, where she developed expertise in wealth management, banking, customer service, operations, and executive administration. Following the birth of her fourth child, she intentionally stepped away from her corporate career to reflect on her personal purpose and professional aspirations. That season of transformation inspired her to pursue a Life Coach certification and advanced training in somatic therapy, equipping her with a holistic approach to emotional wellness, leadership, and personal growth. Drawing from her own experiences as the daughter of immigrant parents, Roxana is deeply committed to addressing the systemic barriers that underserved families often face while creating inclusive environments where individuals feel seen, heard, valued, and empowered. She is also expanding her impact through her coaching practice, Everything Starts Inside, where she provides spiritual and executive coaching that helps adults cultivate greater self-awareness, purpose, resilience, and authentic leadership.
Roxana attributes her success to the belief that meaningful growth begins with intentional reflection and the courage to embrace change. She encourages others—particularly young women—to invest in their personal development, lead with empathy, and remain grounded in their values while navigating life's transitions. She believes one of today's greatest opportunities lies in advancing mental health awareness, emotional intelligence, and authentic leadership while empowering individuals to prioritize their own well-being without guilt. Guided by the values of compassion, integrity, family, and human connection, Roxana remains dedicated to building stronger communities by helping people reconnect with themselves and one another. Through her leadership, coaching, and advocacy, she continues to inspire lasting transformation by demonstrating that when people feel emotionally safe, supported, and valued, they are empowered to create positive change that extends across families, organizations, and future generations.

Ten minutes with Roxana
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to purpose, resilience, adaptability, and a lifelong commitment to growth. Throughout my career, I have learned that true fulfillment comes from following a path that aligns with my values and passion. While my professional background spans more than two decades in finance, wealth management, lending, accounting, customer service, sales, marketing, event management, executive administration, and organizational leadership, I ultimately found my greatest calling in supporting people and creating meaningful change. Twelve years ago, I transitioned into youth mental health and wellness, where I discovered my passion for helping individuals build confidence, emotional resilience, and authentic connections. As the Executive Director of a nonprofit serving more than 10,000 students and families throughout Santa Barbara County, I have been honored to lead initiatives that expand access to social-emotional learning, counseling, leadership development, and family wellness. I believe my success comes from leading with empathy, integrity, strong communication, and a commitment to creating safe spaces where people feel valued and empowered. Every day, I strive to help others recognize their potential and become the best version of themselves, because I believe lasting transformation begins from within and has the power to strengthen families, communities, and the world around us.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
One of the greatest career lessons I've learned is that personal growth requires intentional reflection. Rather than simply letting life happen, I believe it's important to pause periodically, evaluate where I am, and honestly ask whether my current path still aligns with my purpose. That mindset became especially meaningful after the birth of my fourth child, when I intentionally stepped away from my career to reflect and reset. Instead of seeing that season as a setback, I embraced it as an opportunity to rediscover my passions and redefine my future. That decision ultimately led me from a career in finance to one centered on emotional wellness, leadership, and meaningful human connection. I've learned that success isn't always about moving faster—it's often about having the courage to pause, listen, and intentionally choose a path that reflects the person I'm becoming.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this field is to embrace every opportunity to learn and grow while staying true to who you are. Continue developing your skills, remain open to new challenges, and never let the fear of change keep you from pursuing work that genuinely inspires you. I believe leadership begins with self-awareness before you can effectively lead others, you must understand your own values, purpose, and emotional well-being. By investing in your personal growth, you'll be better equipped to support your family, your team, your community, and those who look to you for guidance. Most importantly, lead with empathy rather than ego. Success is measured not only by your professional achievements but also by the positive impact you have on others. When we choose collaboration over competition and connection over division, we become catalysts for meaningful and lasting change.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I believe one of the greatest opportunities in my field is the growing recognition of the importance of mental health, emotional intelligence, and authentic leadership. Schools, organizations, and communities are increasingly understanding that social-emotional learning is essential to improving well-being, strengthening relationships, and fostering long-term success. At the same time, one of the biggest challenges is that many women continue to balance significant personal and professional responsibilities while placing their own well-being last. I believe we have an opportunity to change that by setting healthy boundaries, prioritizing self-care without guilt, and recognizing that caring for ourselves enables us to better serve others. Throughout my career, I have learned that leadership is not simply about managing organizations it is about transforming lives. Whether through expanding programs that have impacted thousands of students and families or helping individuals grow through emotional wellness and coaching, my goal has always been to create environments where people feel heard, valued, and emotionally safe. When people believe in themselves, they gain the confidence to transform their families, their communities, and future generations. That is the kind of leadership I strive to cultivate every day.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide both my work and personal life are empathy, authenticity, human connection, and intentional living. As an immigrant, I've experienced the challenges of navigating uncertainty, separation, and cultural transitions, which have given me a deep appreciation for compassion and the importance of creating spaces where people feel accepted, respected, and understood. Family is at the center of my life, and becoming the mother of four has reinforced my belief that meaningful relationships and personal well-being deserve to be nurtured alongside professional success. I strive for balance through intentional self-care, knowing that caring for myself allows me to better serve others. Whether I'm working with students, parents, educators, executives, or community leaders, my purpose is to help people reconnect with themselves, discover their strengths, and lead with greater authenticity, purpose, and compassion. I believe that lasting transformation begins from within, and when people feel safe, valued, and empowered, they can create meaningful change in their own lives and in the lives of those around them.
