Roxana Sierra

Roxana Sierra is an undergraduate student at Indiana University Bloomington, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government with a focus on criminology. Raised as a naturally shy young woman with big ambitions, she found her calling in law and social science research after being drawn to true-crime documentaries and later inspired by a high school teacher who modeled compassion while teaching about policing and the justice system. That early spark grew into a genuine commitment to the political and government sector, driven by her strong sense of justice and her desire to create communities rooted in safety and fairness.

Sierra has built a foundation of hands-on experience alongside her studies. She currently serves as a Peer Advisor at IU Student Central, where she helps students and parents navigate financial aid, billing, and scholarship concerns through casework, correspondence, and direct outreach. Her international experience includes an internship in Cape Town, South Africa, where she worked closely with a political advocacy officer to research local government structures and public policy. During her time there, she also volunteered with a nonprofit serving the elder community, leading workshops on legal rights and self-advocacy and engaging in outreach with partner organizations, further developing her passion for advocacy and community-centered policy work.

As a first-generation college student, Sierra draws strength from the support of her mother, older sister, and grandmother, and she credits her achievements to an unshakable sense of purpose. Persistent and fully committed to every goal she sets, she approaches challenges and differing opinions without wavering from her path in politics and public service. Outside of her academic and professional pursuits, she enjoys reading books on romance, politics, and law, and values spending time with friends over ice cream, movie nights, and games.
