Her Story
About Ruby
I've spent 20 years building my career in sales, and I just recently returned to marketing in October when I joined HIBU. What drew me to this opportunity was the work-life balance and the way this company respects people's time and family life - the flexibility and structure were exactly what I needed for my mental health because I was burning myself out in my previous roles. Throughout my career in medical sales, I worked across almost every medical aspect - from hospice to surgical suite sales, contract service sales, and orthopedic devices. One of my most notable achievements was creating a multi-million dollar support channel for veterans' orthopedic needs. Year after year for five years, it generated over a million dollars annually, and what made it truly meaningful was knowing that veterans who gave their lives to our country were improving their activities of daily living because of the orthopedic devices I represented. That legacy still puts a smile on my face today. Now, in my current role, I work universally across all industries, connecting with everyone from lawyers and doctors to contractors. My approach centers on understanding people and their pain points, then facilitating solutions to help them reach their business goals. On a daily basis, I'm prospecting, managing accounts, building client rapport, and solving problems - because once you sell them, it doesn't just stop. I make at least 60 touchpoints daily through various channels to connect with potential clients and support my existing ones.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I've been that single mother, I've been that struggling mother, I've been that person where you feel like you're stuck between a rock and a hard place, but with faith and family and support, and I think, with the right foundational tools, you can get out of any position that you're in where you feel defeated. That's important to me, sharing that with that young woman, with that young mother who might be thinking, oh, I'm at the end of my ropes, or I'm not gonna make it, or there's no way out. There is a way out. Don't give up hope, because there's always tomorrow. There's always a chance that tomorrow's better.
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Work-life balance is critically important to me - I had to prioritize it for my mental health because I was burning myself out. The flexibility and respect for people's time and family life that my current company offers is what drew me to this role. I also deeply value giving back, especially to those who have served our country. When I worked with veterans and orthopedic devices, creating solutions that improved their activities of daily living truly put a smile on my face. That sense of leaving a legacy and helping people is what drives me. In my personal life, I'm dedicated to teaching my children the importance of giving back - we make sandwiches for the homeless, participate in coat and blanket drives, and I want them to learn that with faith, family, and support, you can overcome any challenge. Self-care is also essential to me - I'm up at 5 a.m. every morning doing hot yoga, meditation, and sauna work to decompress, because in sales you don't know what moods and temperaments you're going to meet, and you need that time to release stress so it doesn't become counterproductive.
