Ten minutes with Rucha
01What do you attribute your success to?
Two things: alignment and a bias toward building. I've never chased a title for its own sake — I follow the work that actually fits what I care about, and I go deep. That's the thread from studying bioengineering, to a machine learning specialization at Stanford, to working with AI every day in media and technology at Accenture, to building Glow — an AI skincare app I designed, coded, and shipped to the App Store on my own. I also credit refusing to shrink. I've learned to read a room and communicate to the person in front of me without trading away who I am, and to treat "I don't know how to do that yet" as a short gap to close, not a wall.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I ever got came from an unlikely place — Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl: if you don't tell people who you are, they'll decide for you. Funny enough, some of the most successful people live exactly this way. You're the architect of your career, not a passenger — you don't have to move with the momentum you're handed; every step can be framed by you, and you can co-create and alchemize whatever opportunities you're given into the things you actually want to build. It's why I treat my career as a story I'm authoring, not a ladder I'm climbing.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Learn in public and build things. A project you shipped will out-argue any line on a résumé, and it's the fastest way to be taken seriously. Don't wait to feel "qualified" for a project that seems challenging at your job either; most skills are closer than they look, and the confidence comes from reps, getting into the messy middle and figuring it out, not permission. And protect your authenticity while you get fluent at reading rooms. You'll meet egos and dynamics that reward you for being agreeable — you can navigate all of that, cater where you need to, and still not change who you are. Being like-able and being assertive are not opposites, no matter how often the room treats them that way.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is perception — the assumption that learning something new is harder than it actually is. Most skills are far closer than they look once you start, and that gap between how hard something seems and how hard it is holds a lot of people back.
The biggest opportunity is where AI is heading. The tools are getting incredible, but the value is shifting to the humans steering them. AI can generate infinitely, so the scarce thing now is taste, judgment, and point of view- knowing what's actually good and why it matters. The people who win won't be the ones who prompt the fastest; they'll be the ones who can steer the technology and tell the story behind the work. That's the shift I'm most excited about: human-led AI, where the tools handle scale and speed and a person brings the taste and the narrative. It's also why storytelling has become a career superpower — a clear point of view about what you care about and the impact you've made is what sets you apart, instead of being one more cog in the machine.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Alignment and growth. Alignment means doing work that's genuinely mine- following what fits what I care about instead of chasing the expected next rung. Growth means treating "I don't know that yet" as a short gap, not a wall, trusting that most things are more learnable than they look, and actively seeking feedback and mentorship while keeping full agency over my own growth and outcomes. Alignment keeps my work mine; growth keeps it from ever getting stale.
