Her Story

About Ruchi

I lead global talent marketing and brand for GlobalLogic, which is part of the Hitachi group. In my role, I take care of integrated marketing communications planning for branding and how we are perceived as a top employer brand. I work with different Hitachi group companies on showing up as one Hitachi brand externally, collaborating with colleagues and country leads across the globe in a matrixed organization. My team is spread out across India, Japan, rest of APAC, parts of Europe, North America, and Latin America, serving about 32,000 employees globally just in GlobalLogic. I focus on making sure the people we hire and our internal employees can connect with the brand and understand our messaging, while also ensuring our clients understand that we have the top talent. On the client side, I work closely with business and client services representatives to communicate our narrative about being a top employer with the right mix of talent, especially as AI comes into play and we balance that with human talent. I've been in marketing communications for over 20 years, with about 18 years focused purely on marketing. My current role, which includes both talent and marketing with AI and career integration, is very recent. Early in my career, I worked in PR and media relations, focusing on news reading and working with journalists. Looking ahead, my career goals include potentially becoming a CMO, fractional CMO, Chief Communications Officer, or even a communications coach, as I have an intuitive calling to make connections with people.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Ruchi

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The only advice I think I would give is that you have to be very, very authentic, especially when you work in communications. I think this cuts across all industries and all hierarchies, but especially when you want to be a leader in communications, you have to be super authentic. I believe in that quote, 'Be yourself, everybody else is taken.' I live that every day. I just believe you have to be super authentic. And when you're authentic, people believe in you, people walk with you, and it just becomes an organic exercise rather than making it happen. So authenticity is key.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Marketing is moving very differently and very rapidly right now. One of the biggest shifts is how AI is coming into the mix and how we're balancing that with human talent. On the client side, we're working to show how we have the right mix of talent with AI and human capabilities. The industry is evolving so much that even traditional career paths are changing. I don't know if a CMO role or a fractional CMO is the future of marketing, or what the future of marketing looks like. The media industry has also changed dramatically from when I started in PR and media relations. It's an industry in transformation, and we have to adapt to these rapid changes while maintaining authentic connections with people.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity is absolutely central to everything I do. I believe you have to be super authentic, and when you're authentic, people believe in you and walk with you. I'm also deeply passionate about being a bridge builder and a connector. I feel like bridging and being a bridge builder is the biggest thing you can do in the world and the universe, not just right now but until you live. I want to be a seeder, not a leecher. I want to give more than I take. Family is incredibly important to me. I have non-negotiables in my life, like having dinner on the table together with my family every day and cuddling my daughter in the morning when I wake up. These small non-negotiables keep my emotional intelligence in check and my work-life balance intact. When you have your moments and enjoy your work more through the day, you feel more wholesome if you have your non-negotiables intact. I also deeply value the family ecosystem and the support it provides. I wouldn't have been able to bring up my daughter without my father-in-law and mother-in-law's support. I value spending time with parents because they're your biggest teachers. My father is my biggest teacher, and my mother is a teacher in real life and in profession. You learn so much from them about agility, leadership, and keeping the team together.
