Her Interview

Ten minutes with Ruth

01What do you attribute your success to?

In the world of mortgage underwriting, "success" is usually a delicate balancing act between speed, accuracy, and risk management. It is essential to have a risk based mindset while maintaining proactive communication and paying attention to detail.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't just bring problems, bring solutions.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

For a young woman starting out, the goal is to establish yourself as a decisive expert whose judgment is rooted in data, not just "checking boxes." Be the person who knows the handbook better than the person arguing with you. Precision is your greatest leverage.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The mortgage industry is moving away from the "boom or bust" cycles of the early 2020s and into a phase of disciplined, tech-driven expansion. For an underwriter, this means your role is becoming less about high-volume "churn" and more about high-level "precision."

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Clarity, integrity, and adaptability. Whether I'm deconstructing a complex file or navigating a conversation, these three principles are non-negotiable.
