About Ruth
Ruth Wright is the Founder and Program Director of Wright Hands Patient Observation Services (WHPOS), a healthcare workforce innovation she launched in Spring, Texas, to address a persistent and often overlooked gap in patient safety: the inconsistent structure and training behind patient observation roles. Recognizing that observation is a cornerstone of patient safety yet frequently under-defined within hospital workflows, Wright designed a model built around trained Patient Observation Specialists who provide focused monitoring, communication awareness, and structured escalation reporting. These specialists work alongside — never in place of — nurses, technicians, and other licensed clinical staff, easing non-clinical observation demands while reinforcing consistency and reliability across patient care environments.
Since founding WHPOS in April 2024, Wright has personally guided nearly every dimension of the organization's growth, from program development and workforce certification to marketing, day-to-day operations, and alignment with broader healthcare industry standards. Her approach reflects a deep commitment to operational accountability and community trust, and she built the organization independently, without outside backing, driven by what she witnessed firsthand at critical points in patient care delivery. Beyond strengthening safety protocols, she has structured WHPOS to generate meaningful employment opportunities, embedding both economic impact and clinical purpose into the organization's mission. She is currently pursuing partnerships with hospital systems interested in piloting the WHPOS model to evaluate its integration, workflow impact, and contribution to patient safety outcomes.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Every young woman pursuing her dreams should understand that her journey will not always resemble the majority path, and that is precisely why it matters. Influence, leadership, and purpose are built in quiet moments — choosing integrity over convenience, discipline over distraction, and courage over approval. I encourage women never to give up their self-respect or dignity in the pursuit of success. Be patient, have a plan, and don't hesitate to reach out to platforms like Influential Women.
