Her Story
About Rutha
Rutha Jefferson is a seasoned pastor and ministry leader serving at A.N.G.H C.O.G.O.P. in Jackson, Mississippi. With more than three decades of pastoral experience, she has dedicated her life to helping, encouraging, and guiding others through faith-based ministry. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Christian Studies with an emphasis in Pastoral Ministry from Lee University in 2014 and has also pursued theological training through the Bible Training Institute and master's-level studies in Christian Studies. She is currently one paper away from completing her master's degree, with plans to continue her studies in January 2027.
Throughout her ministry, Rutha has focused on pastoral care, theology, spiritual guidance, and community outreach. She is particularly passionate about supporting people through encouragement and practical assistance, including efforts to feed homeless individuals using resources from her church. Her approach to ministry is grounded in prayer, Scripture study, integrity, and a strong commitment to following God's direction. She attributes her success to Jesus and believes that those entering ministry should be certain of their calling, dedicate themselves to study and meditation, seek experienced mentors, and remain open to divine guidance.
Beyond her ministry, Rutha places great importance on family, health, and an active lifestyle. She has been married for 46 years and has three adult children—two sons and a daughter—as well as eight grandchildren. She and her husband enjoy spending time outdoors, talking and relaxing together, and taking short trips. Rutha also prioritizes her personal well-being, beginning her mornings with prayer and study, walking approximately 6,000–7,000 steps a day, and working out with a personal trainer. Her love for people, devotion to faith, and commitment to maintaining a healthy and purposeful life continue to shape her work as a pastor and community leader.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Rutha
01What do you attribute your success to?
Only one person, Jesus. My love for him which encompasses my love for people. I love ministering to people, listening to them. When they lean on me, I lean on the Lord.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My first bishop said money and the opposite sex will mess your ministry up. Be careful in those areas, and careful with both sexes because of the way the world is turning today.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Make sure you're called by God. If you are, spend your time with God, studying and meditating, and he will guide you. Have a mentor to mentor you.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Different personalities of the people. Keeping things balanced with outreach programs like feeding the homeless, which we do from our own pockets, and having enough manpower.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is everything. I have to be sure what I say I mean and make sure that what I am asked I do. Family is my core value, they support and are on board.
