Her Story

About Saakshi

I've been working in sales since 2022, and my journey brought me from fashion into the jewelry industry, which was a huge change for me. I specialize in engagement rings, and what I love most about my work is the customer service aspect. For me, it's not about hitting sales goals or doing whatever it takes to make a sale - it's about giving people what they want and more than what they want in terms of experience. I need to make sure my clients know everything before they make such a huge purchase, because engagement rings aren't just a couple hundred dollars, they're thousands of dollars. My core values are being truthful, being friendly, and giving clients all the information they need to know. I don't force anything - I try my best and let them open up naturally. One of the biggest challenges in jewelry is when prices increase, which makes my job harder because I have to explain to clients why things are so expensive. But I stay truthful and let them know what's happening in the market. When I first started in jewelry, I put a lot of pressure on myself because everything is so expensive and important. I couldn't take chances or give wrong information. My manager gave me advice that changed everything - she told me that mistakes happen, we're human, and there's no mistake that can't be corrected. We can stay calm, give it time, and find a way to fix it. That gave me the confidence I needed. Now I work with confidence and follow the right steps without worrying. I often work six days a week instead of five because I give my time to help out when we're short-staffed. This industry has given me so much confidence and changed my perspective - it showed me there's nothing I can't do.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I received this advice from my manager recently, and it really helped me because I was very new in jewelry - I came from fashion. When I started working in jewelry, I saw that everything is so important and expensive, so I felt I couldn't take any chances. I couldn't give wrong information to clients because I'm representing the company. I used to get a lot of anxiety if I missed something or didn't add information to an order because I was new. My manager told me that mistakes happen - we are humans - and there is no mistake which cannot be corrected. She said to stay calm, give it some time, and find a way to fix it. This advice actually helped me so much. Once she said that, I got this confidence, and since then, I do my work with more confidence. I don't worry about anything much other than making sure everything is right. Now I don't think 'oh my gosh, what if I did anything wrong?' - I just follow the steps I need to follow and make sure I get all the steps done.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In terms of challenges, I would say that in jewelry, sometimes the prices increase, and it just makes my job harder to explain to my clients why it is so expensive. But as I said before, I need to be truthful. I need to let them know that this has happened, which is why the prices have increased, and it's going to increase more and more in the future. So if you think this is the one, then you should go ahead and do the right thing. As for opportunities, when I was doing my job applications, I didn't think that I would be working in the jewelry industry. But it changed my perspective. Seeing myself go from fashion to jewelry - it was a huge opportunity for me specifically to be confident and realize there is nothing I cannot do. For people who are interested in sales, and especially people who want to give customer service in the best way, this is the best opportunity. Making people happy, giving them what they love, making their day, and once they recognize you - that's it. That is the purpose of your life, that is what I feel. If someone wants to make people happy in their life, this is the job sector you need to be in to give that experience. There are a lot of job opportunities, and this is the job where you can actually use it well to make a difference.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

For me, it's about being truthful. Being good, being friendly, no matter if the client is not okay opening up in the starting. Try your best, but don't force. Give all the information they need to know about. I work with engagement rings, and most people don't have much information about them. So for me, I need to make sure that they know everything before they make a huge purchase, because engagement rings are not just a couple of hundreds - they're thousands of dollars. I don't see my day as 'I need to hit my goal.' I see my day as 'I need to give people what they want, and more than what they want in terms of experience.' I need to make sure that whatever I'm doing, I'm doing right in one go, so that clients are happy about it, not complaining or being upset and thinking bad about the company, because I am the person who is representing the company as well.
