Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I think it all boils down to when I worked on the front house in a retail store. I quickly realized that these four walls cannot contain my ambition, and I don't have enough room to grow in this retail environment. So, the willingness to put in the work, I knew it wouldn't be easy to go and get an education to support that ambition, and just knowing that the initial years are going to be tough, I'm going to be exhausted, but just looking ahead to the future and seeing that I will be where I want to be, and my future self will be thanking my present self today. That drive to keep pushing forward, even when things are difficult, and maintaining that vision of where I want to go has been key to my success.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Definitely don't be afraid to ask questions. Every opportunity is a learning opportunity, regardless of how long someone has been there for, what role they're in. Especially when you're going in in a leadership position, you have a lot to prove to the team, and nothing gets them more on your side by showing them that you're not afraid to learn with them, from them, and get into the weeds with them. I also think it's important to understand that if I say I don't know the answer yet, but I can figure that out for you and come back to you, that is a lot more powerful than giving them a half-answer that you hope is right and may turn out to be wrong. Don't be afraid to say I don't know, but I'll be back with an answer. That builds credibility rather than digging yourself into a hole.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think one of the biggest challenges in digital marketing is that it is ever-changing, and you end up wearing many hats. The way I manage this is through collaboration. I do not pretend to know all the answers, nor do I know all the answers, but what I do know is I have peers within certain departments that do know the answer to a part of the question. So, how do you balance collaboration within interdepartments to ensure that you present the client with the most succinct answer that they're hoping to receive? Not one person can wear all the hats, but when you have a strong team around you, you can definitely come together to get that answer for the client.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think I surround myself with individuals who adhere to honesty, integrity, and just being true to themselves. I think I'm pretty quick to realize when someone is showing something that they think you want to look at, but to me, what speaks louder is who are you as an individual? Is this your honest being? Are you just true to yourself and everyone around you? Are you a good human being? Do you know right from wrong? Integrity is so important to me. I believe that one mistake is a mistake, another mistake is kind of repetition, but a third is now by choice, and now you're just in a pattern of things. I value people who own their mistakes rather than hide them, because hiding a mistake is taking an extra step beyond the mistake itself.
