Her Story
About Sabrina
Sabrina Fernandez serves as the president of the New York City chapter of Hygiene Kids Shine, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the oral and dermal health of children. In this role, she oversees the creation of educational social media content on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram and is working to establish in-person workshops at elementary and middle schools. Prior to this, she volunteered with Strength for Seniors in Jersey City for two years beginning in June 2024, initially as social media manager and later as vice president of the Jersey City chapter until June 2026. She graduated from McNair Academic High School in Jersey City in June 2026 and is currently a freshman at Manhattan University pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology. She is a member of the James Patterson Honors Program, through which she participates in volunteer events, and she attributes her drive to her family's immigrant background from Sri Lanka and her personal goals of living a fulfilling life while helping others. Her passion for dentistry, sparked by clinical experience at Strong Roots Dental in Hoboken, New Jersey, where she gained 100 clinical shadowing hours, guides her aspiration to attend dental school after college and specialize in orthodontics or oral and maxillofacial surgery.

01What do you attribute your success to?
A big part of my success is my family. My parents immigrated here from Sri Lanka about 26 years ago and they've just like built a big name for themselves. They've worked hard to come up in America and I just definitely want to give back to them any way I can, make them proud any way I can. I also just have my personal goals. I just like really want to do well in life. I want to be comfortable in life. I want to live like a fulfilling life where I help a lot of people.
