About Sacha

Sacha Brown serves as Women's Empowerment Coordinator, where she has led women's empowerment groups for the past two years. Her path to this role began with an undergraduate degree in Psychology, followed by a master's program in International Disaster Psychology focused on Trauma and Global Mental Health. This education enabled her to work with trauma survivors, including refugees and survivors of human trafficking and school shootings. She has also earned degrees in Journalism and Art, and holds certifications in Psychological First Aid and Trauma-Informed Care. Prior experience includes work with the Heart Gallery of South Texas, where she created portraits and bios for children in foster care, and Project PAVE in Denver, addressing relationship abuse among youth. Currently with the Northern Nevada International Center, she supports refugee resettlement and exchange programs. Sacha attributes her success to a drive to learn more and values honesty, loyalty, and compassion in both her professional and personal life. She advises leading with kindness and encourages young women not to let others' perceptions limit their potential.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sacha

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the drive to learn more. I'm always interested in different points of views and learning more about a specific thing. Even within my organization I was hired on to create these groups but then other opportunities open because I'm interested in how they function. I'm very interested in how the programs work from multiple aspects and to see how I can fit in to not only learn more but contribute more.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is to lead with kindness and openness. I'm very practical and logistical but when leading others not everyone functions in that capacity. Give people the opportunity to explore other skills because sometimes the best growth is when they're uncomfortable and able to see that they can do something they never got the opportunity to try.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering any field not to let someone else's perception of what you can do be your reality. People give advice based off their own life experience and they'll put limitations on you based off their own experiences. Those decisions are entirely up to you and don't let anyone else try to determine them for you.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is you have to be open to adaptability because we are not in control of most things that happens. The people we see, where they come from, and the situations they've gone through is all out of my control. I am just here as a space for them to feel comfortable. This opens up the space to learn adaptability skills and accept what you can change and just be that additional support for somebody.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Personally honesty, loyalty, and compassion are really important and I can see that professionally as well. In addition to the drive to learn more.
