Her Story
About Saima
I have been working in information technology for over 7 years across different sectors including mobility, healthcare, and startup research. Currently, I'm pursuing my doctoral program while working as a research assistant under a professor, where I lead the lab's work and continue making scientific contributions to the technology sector. My role involves deep diving into topics from writing proposals to managing project timelines and technical implementation. I focus on machine learning and AI-driven prediction modeling for healthcare, working on early disease prediction for patients and behavioral predictions. I report to the professor about progress and grants while also leading junior team members. In my previous 7 years of industry experience, I worked with top pharma companies as clients through a leading offshore company in Bangladesh, my home country. One of my most notable achievements was being the working mind behind launching the first-ever super health app in Bangladesh, which has served over a million patients and won the International ITEX Award. I plan to finish my doctoral program this year, and my goal is to work in the healthcare industry as a research professional or research scientist, continuing to make meaningful contributions to the field.

Ten minutes with Saima
01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would just say just enjoy, and just love the work you do. Just love what you do, and do what you love. Everything should be just enjoyed. I mean, even at the challenging, the rigorous parts, the extensive parts, I kind of like to enjoy. Because if you don't enjoy the thing, it gets very mundane and very monotonous, and that brings very unhealthiness in your life. I do not want the other professionals to feel at all boring. Just do it with love.
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
For me, visibility of my work matters, but I primarily focus on the work itself and the contribution I'm making. I think if your work gets visibility, if you really work well, your contribution really matters, then your career will automatically boost. I feel career comes secondary. The primary is I focus on work, the contribution. I don't want to work or contribute or impact just because I want higher positions or good opportunities. Those things come as a byproduct, always. The contribution and impact are what's important.
