Her Story

About Sakshi

My path into fine arts, particularly printmaking, was entirely unexpected. I was experimenting with different practices when I stumbled upon printmaking, and it immediately inspired me. What captivated me was the endless potential for experimentation with layers and materials, and the beautiful surprises that emerged from each piece - those surprises kept me coming back for more. I completed my bachelor's degree in India before pursuing my Master's in Fine Arts from Boston University, where I graduated about two and a half years ago. That experience was a true turning point in my career. I had the opportunity to meet and learn from so many talented artists in both Boston and New York, which profoundly shaped my artistic vision. After completing my master's, I began working as a faculty member in the U.S., teaching visual arts and fine arts. The students have been incredibly inspiring to me as well. I've also had the privilege of working with galleries in New York. In my teaching role, one of my most important responsibilities is designing curriculum for future artists. I focus on creating hands-on experiences with various materials and mediums, aiming to develop both the logical thinking and natural curiosity in my students. I believe in taking action without overthinking, constantly experimenting to get closer to my artistic vision, and documenting my ideas through writing and reading.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The core values that guide my practice are taking action without overthinking, because once I start contemplating too much, I never actually do it. I also believe deeply in experimentation - the more I experiment with materials, mediums, and ideas, the closer I get to what I really want in my practice, even though I'm not always sure where it's going. Working on it every single day makes me feel closer to my vision and inspires me to keep going. The third value is reading and writing things down. I feel like reading helps me gather my ideas and prevents me from getting too complicated in my head. Writing helps me organize my thoughts and stay clear about what I'm doing.
