About Sally
Sally A. Cardy, MPM, is the founder of Transformative Recovery Solutions, LLC, a recovery coaching practice she launched in June 2025 in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania. Her services include individualized coaching, group programs, and professional workshops tailored to clients’ unique needs. Cardy emphasizes creating a safe, supportive environment where individuals can establish healthy routines, develop practical coping strategies, and participate in open, honest conversations about recovery. Her approach recognizes that recovery is not one-size-fits-all and encourages clients to build meaningful support networks beyond traditional 12-step programs.
Before founding Transformative Recovery Solutions, Cardy spent nearly 19 years at the University of Pennsylvania, where she held several administrative and academic leadership positions, including Director of Academic Operations, Administrative Director of Professional Master’s programs in Earth and Environmental Science, Special Projects Coordinator, and Program Coordinator for Pre-Health Programs. Throughout her career, she developed extensive expertise in program management, organizational development, strategic planning, student services, and process improvement. Her responsibilities included coordinating complex operations, developing effective systems, supporting recruitment initiatives, and strengthening relationships among students, faculty, staff, and external partners. Cardy earned an M.P.M. in Project Management from DeVry University in 2014 and completed a Professional Recovery Coach certificate course at Temple University in June 2025. She also served on the board of the Women’s Therapy Center of Philadelphia, supporting its mission to make therapeutic services accessible to the community.
Cardy attributes her success to effective communication, honesty, and the personal growth she has experienced throughout her recovery journey. She believes that kindness, accountability, and treating others with respect are essential to building trust and maintaining meaningful relationships. Through her recovery coaching practice and Substack writing, she continues to promote honest conversations about addiction, sobriety, and the work involved in creating a fulfilling life without alcohol. Outside her professional commitments, Cardy enjoys performing magic, solving puzzles, walking her dog, and hiking. These interests reflect her curiosity, creativity, and appreciation for activities that bring balance to her life. Guided by empathy, integrity, and a genuine desire to help others, she remains dedicated to empowering individuals to approach recovery with confidence, clarity, and a renewed sense of possibility.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sally
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to effective communication, honesty, and the personal growth I have achieved throughout my 27 years of sobriety. My recovery journey has taught me the importance of accountability, resilience, and developing healthy coping mechanisms to navigate challenges. These experiences have shaped my approach to both my professional and personal life, allowing me to build meaningful relationships, communicate openly, and approach obstacles with clarity, integrity, and perseverance.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to create a cheat sheet for tasks that are performed only once a year. Documenting the process makes it easier to remember important steps, maintain consistency, and delegate responsibilities effectively when needed. I have found that being organized and having clear instructions in place helps improve efficiency, saves time, and ensures that tasks can be completed accurately, even when they are not part of my regular routine.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is to build a strong support system by surrounding themselves with trusted friends, mentors, and people who can offer encouragement and guidance. I also recommend reaching out to local universities to explore business courses and free advising services that may help with starting and managing a small business. Taking advantage of available resources, asking questions, and seeking support from others can provide a strong foundation for success and help young women navigate the challenges of building their careers or businesses with confidence.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is the unpredictable nature of human circumstances. People may genuinely want to work with me, but unexpected life events and changing personal priorities can affect their ability to commit to services or follow through with plans. This uncertainty can make financial forecasting and business planning more challenging. At the same time, these experiences present an opportunity to remain flexible, communicate openly, and approach people with understanding and compassion while maintaining realistic financial expectations and a sustainable business.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty and kindness are the values I consider most important in both my professional and personal life. I believe in treating others with respect, communicating openly, and being truthful, even when the conversation may be difficult. For example, if someone decides not to hire me, I appreciate direct and honest communication rather than being treated unkindly or disrespectfully. I believe that people can be honest while still being compassionate, and that treating others with dignity helps build trust and fosters stronger, more meaningful relationships.
