Her Story

About Sam

Sam Bearse serves as Global Account Executive at SHI, where she has worked for the past four years managing key accounts in the technology sector. With 16 years of experience in tech and IT sales dating back to 2010, her career began after earning a bachelor's degree in graphic design from Northeastern. Following a brief stint selling mortgages and a start in Apple retail during the 2009 economic downturn, she spent five years at MathWorks selling engineering software and later held customer success positions at several SaaS companies before transitioning to her current sales role at SHI. Sam credits her professional achievements to her transparency, authenticity, confidence, and dedication to remaining fully engaged at work while listening attentively to understand and serve her clients effectively. She advises building internal alliances by understanding colleagues' performance metrics and goals, and encourages young women in the industry to leverage their natural advantages while exuding intelligence and remaining true to themselves.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sam

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my lack of filter, transparency, authenticity, and confidence. Also staying engaged when at work, listening all the time to gain information about people, and learning the person you're selling to so you can give them relevant information.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice is to understand how other people are measured and help them achieve their measurements and goals, so they will help you achieve yours. Understand their compensation models and performance indicators to build alliances within the company rather than working as a lone wolf.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

We are at an advantage as women in the industry. Capitalize on the pros of being female, such as emails from female salespeople being more likely to be opened. Don't lean into old-school stereotypes; instead exude intelligence, confidence, and transparency. Be your natural self and make yourself comfortable to perform well.
