Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the unexpected journey that brought me here. After graduating in 2009 during the recession, I moved to Washington, D.C., and worked as a server. One challenging day, my authenticity caught the attention of Jason Rosen, a NASA professional, who helped me secure a position on Capitol Hill. That opportunity set me on a path in government and nonprofit work. It also inspired me to earn a Master’s in Public Administration and a leadership and performance coaching certification from ACT at Brown University. Coaching has been transformative—enhancing my leadership skills, shaping the way I approach challenges, and giving me the confidence to navigate difficult conversations thoughtfully. These experiences have been invaluable, equipping me to lead with purpose, support others effectively, and find joy in my work.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is that you can build a career you love while also making it deeply rewarding. It reminded me that passion and purpose don’t have to be mutually exclusive—and that the most fulfilling work comes when you align your strengths with what truly inspires you.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to remain adaptable. You may start out thinking you have it all planned, but life has a way of reshaping your path. Learning to pivot and embrace necessary changes is key. For me, being flexible and open to new opportunities has been incredibly rewarding—I’m especially proud of receiving the Erma Lessel Collins Award in 2009, which recognized the impact of following that mindset. Many of the roles I have had don't offer formal awards or acknowledgements so staying grounded and appreciating the human connections that can lead into lifelong friendships is crucial. You never know how someone may change your life for the better.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge I face in my field is navigating the bureaucracy that often comes with government work. There are times I feel like my skills aren’t being fully utilized, and I’m frustrated when leadership positions are filled by people who aren’t true leaders. Changing that culture and ensuring people feel supported and have room to grow is something I’m deeply passionate about.

At the same time, I’m excited about new opportunities and challenges. I’m exploring entrepreneurship and seeking leadership roles where I can have a meaningful impact, while also being present for my children, who are my greatest joy. Balancing career advancement with family life is both a challenge and an opportunity that motivates me every day.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are meaningful connection, growth, and being present. At work, I focus on supporting my team’s development and fostering strong relationships. In my personal life, my two young children are my greatest joy, and I prioritize time outdoors, staying active, and creating a balanced, grounded home life. Overall, I strive to grow myself, support others, and find harmony between my career and family.
