About Samantha
Samantha Carter is a Senior Tailored Branch Support Specialist at Edward Jones in Waco, Texas, a role she has held since 2023. In this position, she supports three financial advisors by overseeing day-to-day operations, including client onboarding, paperwork processing, money movements, and account setup, while also guiding advisors on strategies to grow their business through networking. With roughly seven years in the finance industry, her career began at Northwestern Mutual, where she started as a financial advisor assistant before advancing to a financial representative role licensed in health and life insurance, helping clients navigate insurance solutions and financial planning. Carter's drive stems from a deep-rooted passion for financial education, shaped by witnessing a lack of financial knowledge in the community she grew up in. She is currently working toward her SIE and Series 7 licenses with the goal of becoming a fully licensed financial advisor, and envisions one day teaching as an adjunct professor to further extend her impact. Her ambitions center on empowering low-income families and young adults with the tools to build wealth, and she hopes to serve as an example for women pursuing careers in an industry still largely dominated by men. Alongside her professional pursuits, she holds a Notary Public license and an Insurance Producer license, both through the State of Missouri, and has completed a Master of Arts in Nonprofit Administration from Lindenwood University, building on her undergraduate degree in Entrepreneurship and Business Management from Stephens College. Grounded in faith, family, and perseverance, Carter credits her achievements to hard work and an unwavering focus on long-term goals, even in the face of personal setbacks. She has given back to her community through volunteer work with the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank and The People's Response Emergency Hub and continues to balance her career growth with meaningful personal milestones.

Ten minutes with Samantha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success first and foremost to my faith in God, along with hard work and dedication. Life brings its share of challenges, but I've learned to push through them while staying focused on the bigger picture. That mindset was instilled in me by the family who raised me — always keeping my eyes on the prize.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is to stay focused on my long-term goals, remain resilient through life's challenges, and continue investing in myself regardless of the obstacles that come my way.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women that they can succeed at whatever they set their mind to. The finance industry offers endless opportunities, and one of the things I appreciate most is that you're never confined to a single box — there are so many licenses and certifications available that can continue to open doors throughout your career. I'd encourage them to explore their interests and pursue what genuinely resonates with them, knowing that if one path doesn't feel right, there are always other avenues to explore within the industry.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges I see in finance is that everyone tends to consider themselves an expert on the subject, which can easily lead to imposter syndrome. With the rise of tools like ChatGPT and other AI resources, it can seem like everyone has it all figured out, but I don't believe that's actually the case. On the opportunity side, I'd love to see more women enter the field. It's still a male-dominated industry, and while there are women in finance, we remain a small number compared to our male counterparts — which I see as real room for growth and representation.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family is, without question, the most important value to me — it's truly a driving force in both my personal and professional life.
