Her Interview

Ten minutes with Samantha

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of resilience, continuous learning, and a people-first leadership philosophy.

Over the years, I have learned that sustainable success is rarely achieved alone. It is built through strong relationships, a willingness to adapt, and a commitment to helping others succeed alongside you.

My military service instilled discipline, accountability, and the ability to lead through complex challenges, while my professional experience reinforced the importance of empathy, trust, and authentic leadership. I believe the most effective leaders create opportunities for others to grow, foster cultures where people feel valued, and remain committed to learning and evolving themselves.

At the core of everything I do is a simple belief: when you invest in people, you create the conditions for extraordinary outcomes. That philosophy has guided my career and continues to shape how I lead, serve, and measure success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received was to lead with people first and never underestimate the impact of how you make others feel. Throughout my career, I’ve learned that effective leadership begins with empathy, active listening, and the ability to meet people where they are. Every person has a story, a challenge, or a perspective that we may not fully see, and the strongest leaders take the time to understand before they act.

Another piece of advice that has stayed with me is simple: always tell the truth. Integrity is one of the few things no one can take from you. When you lead with honesty, transparency, and accountability, you build trust, and trust is the foundation of every successful team, organization, and relationship.

My faith has also played a significant role in shaping my leadership journey. It has taught me that while we are responsible for our effort, character, and choices, we are not in control of every outcome. Some of the most important lessons in my life have come from trusting the process, staying grounded in my values, and having faith that the right opportunities will unfold in their proper time.

Above all, I believe leadership is ultimately about service. Success is not measured solely by personal accomplishments, but by the impact we have on others and the opportunities we create for people to grow, succeed, and become the best versions of themselves.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the field is to focus on building credibility before seeking recognition. Be dependable, stay curious, and consistently deliver quality work. Careers are built over time through trust, relationships, and a willingness to keep learning, not through titles alone.

It can be tempting to feel like you have to prove yourself constantly, especially in leadership roles or traditionally male-dominated environments. However, some of the most effective leaders are those who lead with authenticity, confidence, and collaboration. Don't be afraid to ask questions, seek feedback, or take on challenges that stretch your capabilities. Growth often happens just outside your comfort zone.

I would also encourage women to support and champion one another. There is far more to be gained through collaboration than competition. The strongest leaders create opportunities for others, share knowledge freely, and help lift those around them as they climb.

Most importantly, never lose sight of who you are. Your character, integrity, and how you treat people will become your reputation. Skills can be learned, and experience can be gained, but trust is earned. Invest in relationships, stay true to your values, and remember that leadership is not about having power over people. It's about creating positive impact through people.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities in People Operations today is reimagining the employee experience and creating workplaces where people can truly thrive. Organizations are increasingly recognizing that talent is not just a resource to manage but a competitive advantage to develop, engage, and retain.

Companies that invest in culture, leadership development, employee well-being, and career growth are often the ones best positioned for long-term success.

At the same time, one of the greatest challenges is leading through constant change. Organizations are navigating evolving workforce expectations, emerging technologies, shifting business priorities, and new ways of working. Employees want purpose, flexibility, development opportunities, and authentic leadership, while organizations must balance those needs with operational goals and business performance.

Another significant challenge is developing leaders who can successfully lead people, not just manage processes. Technical expertise alone is no longer enough. The most effective leaders are those who can build trust, communicate effectively, foster engagement, and create environments where individuals feel valued and empowered to contribute.

I also believe there is a tremendous opportunity to move beyond transactional approaches to human resources and embrace a more strategic, people-centered mindset. When organizations intentionally invest in their people, culture, and leadership, they create stronger teams, better business outcomes, and workplaces where individuals can do their best work.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that matter most to me in both my work and personal life are faith, integrity, service, family, and authenticity. These values guide how I lead, how I build relationships, and how I make decisions. I believe people deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion, and I strive to bring that perspective into every interaction, whether in a professional setting or my personal life.

Service has always been a central theme throughout my journey. From my military service to my work in people leadership and organizational development, I have found the greatest fulfillment in helping others grow, succeed, and realize their potential. I believe leadership is ultimately about serving others, creating opportunities, and leaving people better than you found them.

Faith plays an important role in keeping me grounded and providing perspective during both challenges and successes. It reminds me to lead with humility, extend grace to others, and trust the process even when the path forward is not always clear.

Above all, family is my greatest blessing and highest priority. My husband, our four daughters, and our extended family are the foundation of everything I do. Whether we are sharing everyday moments, exploring new places, or simply enjoying time together, they continually remind me what matters most. At the end of the day, success means very little if it is not shared with the people you love.
