Her Story

About Samantha

My path to becoming a counselor came through my own lived experience with addiction. I struggled with addiction for 20 years, and by God's grace, He brought me out of it. I came into the rehabilitation center as a client myself, went through the program, and after graduating, I stayed on and joined the staff. I started as a client rep assistant, worked my way up to client rep assistant, and then transitioned into the counseling field where I've been for 2 years now. I've been at the Recovery Center for going on 4 years total. In my role, my key responsibilities include getting clients stable, managing emergencies, conducting one-on-one sessions and group sessions, doing intakes and exits as clients graduate the program, and handling the necessary paperwork. But beyond the day-to-day work, my heart is truly in the mission field - going out and making disciples, not just here but bringing the Word of God to those who don't know Him, who have never even heard about Him, and don't even have a word for Him. That's reaching all nations, and that's where my heart lies. The Word of God has renewed my mind, changed my mindset, changed the way I look at things, and raised my heart. It has also put me in the right place with the right leaders in my life.

Ten minutes with Samantha

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the Word of God. The Word of God has renewed my mind, it has changed my mindset, and it's changed the way I've looked at things. It has changed my heart. And it's also put me in the right place with the right leaders in my life. Without that foundation, I wouldn't be where I am today, helping others through their own recovery journeys.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've been given is that not everybody can handle your dreams. That really stuck with me because it taught me to be selective about who I share my aspirations with and to keep moving forward on my own path, even when others don't understand or support my vision.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this field is to stay connected, stay grounded, and stay underneath other women that have experience that can help them. Don't get veered off the path. Don't settle too quickly. And with me being faith-based, don't get unequally yoked. Stay true to what the Word says, not what the world says.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges would be distractions.

And there are so many opportunities. We can just look around and see that there’s an opportunity around every corner. The question is are you seizing every opportunity to do what you need to do, to love on people, to lend a helping hand, to just sit with somebody and listen to them. People want to be seen and heard. The word says make the most of every opportunity..

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in my work and personal life are honesty and integrity. These principles guide everything I do, both in how I serve my clients at the Recovery Center and in how I live my life outside of work.
