Her Story

About Samantha

Samantha LewisPerez serves as a bilingual educational diagnostician and will begin her position with Comal ISD when school starts in August. She spent the previous 18 years working as a certified Spanish teacher in classroom settings, first in Indianapolis, Indiana after graduating from Indiana University with a degree in Secondary Spanish Education and a minor in ESL, where she became licensed in both ESL and Spanish. She later moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she continued teaching Spanish in middle school and other district roles before completing her master's degree in bilingual educational diagnostics at Sam Houston State University. Her decision to pursue higher education and language expertise stemmed from a desire to provide stability for her children and to differentiate herself professionally. In addition to her teaching career, she has volunteered as a short-term missionary with the Disciples of Christ Christian Church, supporting educational initiatives through the Caminante ministry in the Dominican Republic.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Samantha

01What do you attribute your success to?

My children were the main source of my inspiration. When my first marriage ended I had four small children and only a high school diploma so I knew I needed to do better to provide stability and a better life. Learning Spanish helped differentiate me and open doors.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Pursue your education and take it seriously because it opens doors. Be a lifelong learner and be willing to learn new things like languages which can open new worlds and opportunities.
