Her Story

About Samantha

I started my career at Together for Youth, previously Berkshire Farm Center, in an entry-level administrative assistant role while completing my master's program. It provided great work-life balance and benefits. I was promoted to support recruitment, training, and onboarding of foster parents, and later to program coordinator overseeing the program. During COVID, I worked at Red Health Services overseeing two inpatient substance abuse programs. Since 2023, I have been at In Tandem as manager in talent acquisition and HR support, helping grow the team and reduce vacancy rates dramatically.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Samantha

01What do you attribute your success to?

My childhood and being raised by my grandmother, who taught me kindness and generosity. I learned a lot from her example and what not to do, and I practice daily self-reflection to do the best I can.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Do what makes you happy. It's okay to follow your dreams while paying the bills with your 9-to-5, because your dream job doesn't have to be your day job.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't let people tell you no. If someone turns you down for a promotion or raise, try again and try harder. Keep learning and growing even after work hours, and remember the sky's the limit.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Funding cuts are a major challenge in the nonprofit sector, along with organizational size differences affecting resources. The job market is tough with increased applicants, making it harder to find the right fit.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty and kindness are huge for me. I prefer direct truth over sugarcoating, and I believe in doing little acts of kindness daily because they make a big difference. I'm a huge believer in karma.
