Ten minutes with Samantha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my family and the strong foundation of hard work and perseverance they instilled in me. My grandmother, a single mother and entrepreneur who migrated from Costa Rica, made sacrifices that created a ripple effect contributing to the opportunities and achievements I have today. I also credit my mother for giving me the opportunity to attend college, broadening my perspective, and supporting me throughout my journey. My aunt, who was also a single mother and built a successful career, further showed me what is possible through determination and perseverance. The remarkable women in my family have collectively shaped my understanding of what I can accomplish.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to speak up for myself and never underestimate my value or the impact I can have on other people’s lives. I understand that people may not remember my exact words, but they will remember how I made them feel. I carry that perspective into my work by fostering genuine connections, nurturing relationships, treating others with respect and dignity, and continually strengthening human connections.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to remain authentic and seek out work that aligns with a mission they genuinely believe in. When you believe in the work you are doing, your career can feel more natural and fulfilling. I also encourage young women to embrace continuous growth, strive to make a meaningful impact, and remain committed to both personal and professional development throughout their careers.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in healthcare and mental health recruiting is meeting the growing demand for qualified professionals while understanding the unique motivations of each candidate. Recruiting requires more than simply presenting an open position or focusing on financial compensation. I strive to understand what candidates truly value and align their expectations with benefits, additional opportunities, workplace culture, and other factors that contribute to long-term success. I am passionate about advocating for candidates and finding solutions that create the best possible fit between individuals and organizations.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are meaningful relationships, open and effective communication, authenticity, transparency, and unwavering integrity. I strive to be the best version of myself and take pride in being a woman of my word. I believe in honoring my commitments and making sure my actions align with my principles, both professionally and personally.
