Her Interview
Ten minutes with Samantha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to persistence and resilience, which have helped me continue moving forward through challenges and setbacks. I am also deeply grateful for the support of my grandparents, husband, best friend, and chosen family, whose encouragement has been a constant source of strength. By intentionally surrounding myself with people who uplift and support me during difficult times, I am able to stay grounded and motivated. Ultimately, I view success as a marathon rather than a sprint, which allows me to remain patient, consistent, and focused on long-term growth.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is, “Don’t give up.” After being rejected from several top film schools, I chose to spend a year strengthening my writing, refining my craft, and reapplying. That period of growth ultimately paid off when I was accepted into prestigious programs, including USC and UCLA. This experience reinforced my belief that success comes from staying committed to your goals, even during seasons of self-doubt and uncertainty.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women entering my industry to choose community over jealousy and to genuinely celebrate the success of others. Trust your instincts and always prioritize your safety, especially in unfamiliar or high-pressure environments. Seek out mentors who are truly invested in your growth and willing to guide you with honesty and care. If you encounter sexism, ageism, or inappropriate behavior, speak up and advocate for yourself without hesitation. Focus on developing your talent and strengthening your skills rather than trying to conform to industry stereotypes, and intentionally build strong professional relationships with people who support, encourage, and challenge you to grow.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest opportunities in my field right now come from the ability to connect with audiences in new and meaningful ways through social media and constantly evolving media platforms. These tools have expanded access and created more space for diverse voices and stories to be seen and heard. At the same time, the industry continues to face challenges, including the need to adapt quickly to changing technology, navigate increased competition, and address ongoing issues such as ageism and sexism that can still exist within entertainment spaces. Despite these challenges, I believe that strong storytelling ultimately transcends barriers and speaks for itself.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life include collaboration over competition and a commitment to supporting and uplifting others while still advocating for myself. I believe there is enough opportunity for everyone to succeed, and that mindset helps me approach my work with generosity rather than scarcity. I also prioritize maintaining integrity, self-awareness, and healthy boundaries in all of my professional relationships, as these principles are essential to building trust and sustaining long-term growth.
