Her Story
About Samantha
Samantha Post grew up working in her family's hardware store, which they have owned for nearly 35 years. After earning a bachelor's of science and pursuing a path toward physical therapy, she obtained a master's in public health and worked at the National Cancer Institute in Washington, D.C., where she developed digital products including websites, apps, and text messaging programs to help people quit smoking, with a focus on women. She returned to the family business full-time 13 years ago, taking on marketing and advertising responsibilities and becoming the public face of the company across its rural and city locations. Post has driven initiatives such as an online shop at morethanhardware.com and hardware vending machines to improve accessibility. She also organizes community events, including a touch-a-truck fundraiser for a local boy with the rare genetic disorder IPEX.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
If you're feeling the call, just follow it. If you feel called to start your own business, then do it. Partnerships feel challenging. Put yourself out there. In a male-dominated industry like hardware, it's harder to earn your stripes but once you have, you have earned the respect.
