Her Story
About Samantha
I've been in truck leasing for about a year now, working in business-to-business sales. Before that, I was in recruiting for 10 years. In my current role, I focus on building relationships and providing solutions for customers who need semi-trucks, daycabs, tractors, and trailers. We do a lot of maintenance and in-service work as well - anything from renting equipment to leasing equipment on the business side, and then definitely service. The main thing in the trucking industry is downtime, and we want to make sure that any of our customers are really just focused on their customer service and their product. What we do is try to limit all of the downtime, meaning their trucks are not parked or in the yard needing service. We really try and get them out of the door as soon as possible so that they can serve their customers, and we're serving them the right way. My job is to track those units down, find new business, check the units for customers, and see what they're benefiting from and what their pain points are, to see if maybe we can come in and alleviate those.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Samantha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would definitely say my kids, but I would also say strong work ethic. I think I've had that my entire career. Being a full-time obsessed mom to my two children drives me, and I've always maintained a strong commitment to working hard throughout my professional journey.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I received was from my boss who used to say all the time, 'do what they say they're going to do.' Following in those footsteps, I know when I see something and I make a commitment, I'm gonna follow through with that, no matter what. It's about keeping your word and following through on your commitments.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't give up, and always stay curious. The trucking and equipment leasing industry can be challenging, but persistence and maintaining your curiosity about the business will serve you well.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I would probably say downtime and maybe the amount of work it takes to create a new truck. Managing equipment downtime for customers is always a challenge, and the process of getting new trucks into service requires significant effort and coordination.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I think my moral compass is huge for me. My integrity is critical - knowing that I'm not going to try and sell you something without really fully believing in that. And then, of course, just owning what I do. I would say accountability is a huge one for me, taking accountability when I'm wrong or when I'm right, knowing that this is something that I can fix, or owning those actions and mistakes. These values guide both my professional relationships and my personal life.
