Samantha Rubin is an insurance and business development professional based in New York City, currently serving as Assistant Vice President of Wholesale Business Development at Sompo. In this role, she focuses on building and strengthening strategic relationships with wholesale brokers across the Northeast region, emphasizing trust, collaboration, and long-term value creation. Known for her relationship-first approach, she operates at the intersection of strategy and execution, supporting multiple business units while representing Sompo in the broker community and industry events.

She brings more than a decade of experience across commercial insurance and distribution, with a well-rounded background spanning both brokerage and carrier environments. Samantha began her career after earning a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Brooklyn College and obtaining her Property & Casualty license. She held early roles at small agencies before expanding into positions at Founder Shield, CNA Insurance, and Chubb. At CNA, she progressed through field sales and later national sales leadership, managing broker relationships and driving growth across small business portfolios, while her time at Chubb gave her exposure to high-net-worth personal lines and retail brokerage partnerships.

Throughout her career, Samantha has built a reputation for empathetic leadership, strong communication, and deep industry relationship-building. She is especially driven by collaboration and problem-solving within complex insurance ecosystems, often engaging in initiatives that connect carriers, brokers, and clients around shared growth goals. Now at Sompo, she continues to expand her impact through market engagement, industry conferences, and cross-regional collaboration, bringing energy and intention to every professional relationship she develops.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a strong personal drive shaped by my family’s history of resilience, particularly my grandfather’s experience as a Holocaust survivor who rebuilt his life after coming to the United States. Growing up with an awareness of financial hardship in my household reinforced my commitment to education as a foundation for opportunity and stability. I have remained focused on working hard, leading with integrity, and building meaningful professional relationships while striving to do my best in every role. I also credit the consistent support of my family and close friends, who have encouraged and grounded me throughout my career journey.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I received, from a general life advice that can be applicable to all aspects, is if it's gray, then go play. Anything that is not black and white to you, that is your room to go explore. That kind of carries with me throughout everything that I'm doing, career and personal.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to seek out roles where you feel genuinely valued and supported, and to trust your instincts when making career decisions. Prioritize environments that encourage growth, learning, and collaboration rather than just status or title. Lead with humility, stay open to feedback, and focus on building strong relationships, as those connections often become just as important as technical skills in long-term success.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The main challenges in my field are organizational changes, shifting leadership priorities, and financial constraints that can strain resources, especially across large territories. At the same time, there are strong opportunities to build deeper local and regional relationships and grow small business insurance through focused wholesale business development.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are family, humility, and continuous learning, grounded in traditional values while embracing a modern outlook. I value meaningful connection through work, relationships, travel, and time in nature, as well as my love for animals. In both my personal and professional life, I strive to lead humbly, appreciate others’ efforts, and foster collaboration while staying open to learning from every experience.
