About Samantha

Samantha Smith is a dedicated talent acquisition and contact center professional with over four years of experience in recruiting, team leadership, and customer service. She currently serves as Talent Acquisition Manager at Ancora Education in Niagara Falls, New York, where she leads recruitment strategy and talent acquisition initiatives. In this role, she manages a team of two recruiters and handles posting jobs, reviewing resumes, screening calls, and scheduling interviews specifically for director and above positions, while also collaborating with departments to align on talent needs and developing projects to enhance the company's appeal. Prior to this role, which she assumed in February, she started with the company in September 2022 as a Contact Center Representative taking calls from prospective students. She then advanced to Team Lead-Contact Center, where she managed representatives through coachings and call reviews, and subsequently to Corporate Recruiter, helping build the talent acquisition department from the ground up. She holds a specialty credential in talent acquisition. She is a high school graduate who attended community college for three semesters but chose to focus on work. Samantha attributes her success to her family, particularly her grandmother who recognized her potential early, as well as her company and manager who supported her growth. She values trust, collaboration, and accountability in her team without micromanagement, and prioritizes family in her personal life with her two young boys. Her advice to young women is to put themselves out there, ask questions, learn about the company, and create their own opportunities.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Samantha

01What do you attribute your success to?

My family, specifically my grandmother who is my rock and saw my potential before I could. Also my company and manager who recognized what I can do and pushed me to grow.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Just keep pushing and keep going. If it's not something you want to do, it's okay to switch jobs. Keep chasing your dreams and try different things until you find what you want to do.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Put yourself out there. Consistently ask questions and learn as much as you can about the company. Let people know you're ready for the next steps. Don't wait for opportunities, create them yourself.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is pay. As a trade school company, we struggle to compete with what welders, electricians, and HVAC techs can make in the field versus what education pays.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In work: trust in my team, collaboration, accountability without micromanagement. In personal life: family is everything, especially my two young boys.
