Her Story
About Samantha
I started my career in sales doing door-to-door work for AT&T, where I discovered I was doing something that nobody else could do. When I had a child, I couldn't continue door-to-door sales anymore, so I decided to open my own recruiting business because we needed people and I like helping others find jobs. I opened my company under another company called SidGor and partnered with a multi-million dollar industry, which took me 2 years to build. Now I manage multiple offices in Virginia Beach, Texas, and North Carolina, with teams ranging from 8 to 20 people. My day involves waking up early to message and call everyone to make sure the offices are organized, which is challenging with different time zones, and I balance all of this with two kids. I spend the rest of my day on the phone making calls, talking to the right people, making sure this is really what they want to do, and helping steer them into what they need. I also help people edit their resumes to make them look like what companies want. I'm more focused on helping people find a career, not just a job. One of my most notable achievements is that my husband and I promoted an assistant manager who was at entry-level, helped train them, and they're now opening up their own office in Texas in about 3 months. We have two others on the way.

Ten minutes with Samantha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my kids, specifically my son, Hunter, who is [AGE]. The lifestyle I had was very abusive growing up, and seeing him and showing him that you can come from nothing and still make it, and still put a positive spin on everything after coming from what I did - he's really my motivation. I want to show him that no matter what you've been through, you can succeed.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is: no matter how hard it gets, just keep going. Just keep going. That simple message has carried me through all the challenges I've faced in building my business and managing multiple offices while raising two kids.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't ever use the excuse, I'm just a girl. I'm just a woman. It does not matter what gender you are, you can still do whatever your mind is put up to. If you think you can do it, do it, do it. Don't let gender dignify you. You want to go work in a field filled with men? Go! I'll go with you! Let's go! Gender should never hold you back from pursuing what you want to achieve.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Honestly, I'm fighting a lot with people thinking everything is a scam nowadays. You've gotta try to prove to them, like, hey, no! We're not a scam, we're trying to help you! People do not like doing that research at all. They'll see one negative thing, and that's a scam, that's a scam. I'm fighting for just common sense. It's challenging to build trust when people are so skeptical, but I understand it's the environment we're in today.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is the most important value to me. If you do one thing one way, that's how you're gonna do it all the time. If I show people, even in my personal life, that I am on top of it and I can do everything I need to do, I want to show people that in my business life too. I can do what I need to do, I will work the full day, I will work as hard as you need me to do until I get the job done. Consistency and following through on commitments is everything to me.
