Her Story
About Sampurna
Sampurna Basu is a dedicated policy researcher and public service professional with experience in impact evaluation and policy research. She graduated with her master's degree in 2021 and then worked in India for close to three years as an impact evaluation professional at LEAD in the financial and social well-being sector. There she evaluated policies around financial inclusion specifically for women in India, including a project that brought women into the formal banking system and allowed her to speak directly with women in rural spaces about the policies' effects. In 2024 she returned to the U.S. to pursue a PhD in public policy focused on healthcare at UMass Boston, which she expects to complete by 2029. Since then she has worked as a Graduate Research Assistant with professors at UMass Boston and completed the Civic Action Project Fellowship, through which she was placed with the Massachusetts League for Community Health Centers doing research work. She is a member of APAM, the Association for Public Policy and Administration and Management, and is an EEEI Fellowship Awardee for 2026. Her goal is to continue in policy research and development research, potentially at organizations such as the World Bank or UN agencies.
