Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sandra

01What do you attribute your success to?

Mentorship

Sandra’s journey has been shaped by mentors who recognized her potential early on—some from afar, others who invested directly in her growth and helped her rise beyond her circumstances.

Early Career

Her first 17 years in business became a masterclass in leadership. Newly sober and without a college degree, Sandra was guided by a manager who saw past her past and taught her how to lead, communicate, and operate confidently in senior‑level spaces.

Learning & Development

Sandra built her business acumen by observing strong leaders, asking thoughtful questions, and staying teachable. She embraced the belief that readers are leaders and learners are earners, a philosophy that continues to shape her approach to growth.

Guiding Belief

Though she later earned her degrees, Sandra’s most valuable lessons came long before the classroom. Her journey reflects the power of mentorship, humility, and a willingness to learn—principles she now pays forward through her leadership and coaching.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Career Advice

Sandra’s first senior‑level role came with guidance she still carries today: “Just be yourself.” Mentors throughout her career reinforced the same truth—believe in who you are and keep learning.

Authentic Leadership

She’s learned that growth doesn’t require changing who you are. You can strengthen your skills and expand your knowledge while staying true to your values.

Confidence & Growth

Sandra believes confidence and competence grow together. Trust that you belong in the room, and stay humble enough to keep learning once you’re there.

Guiding Belief

Her core message to emerging leaders: Be yourself. Believe in yourself. And never stop learning.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Encouragement for Young Women

Sandra encourages young women to embrace who they are and remember that past mistakes do not define their future. Every experience offers a chance to learn, grow, and lift someone else along the way.

Daily Discipline

She believes a strong day begins with simple habits: make your bed, wash your face, pray/meditate, and/or journal. Small choices build discipline, confidence, and self‑respect.

Guiding Belief

Her message is clear: Your past may shape your story, but it does not write your future. You have the power to choose what comes next.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Sandra believes the most pressing HR challenges center on preparing organizations for the workforce of the future. Aging talent, succession, recruitment, retention, leadership pipelines, and engagement are all interconnected priorities shaping long‑term success.

People & Innovation

As experienced employees exit the workforce, HR must ensure knowledge transfer, develop future leaders, and strengthen environments where people can grow and thrive. Technology and AI are reshaping work, and Sandra believes HR must embrace innovation without losing the human element.

Coaching & Legacy

At this stage in her career, Sandra is focused on pouring into others—coaching professionals, strengthening leadership capabilities, and helping people prepare for opportunities they may not yet see.

Guiding Purpose

Her next chapter is about legacy: using her experience to prepare, encourage, and open doors for those coming behind her.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Values & Foundation

Faith grounds Sandra’s life and guides how she leads, makes decisions, and navigates challenges. Balance reminds her that success means little without the relationships that matter most.

Family & Grounding

She protects time for her husband, her adult sons, their three dogs, and her church family—relationships that keep her centered and remind her that work is only one part of who she is.

Well‑Being & Renewal

Sandra believes you cannot pour into others without replenishing yourself. Caring for her spiritual, emotional, and physical well‑being allows her to show up fully in every role she holds.

Guiding Purpose

Her values—faith, family, balance, service, and authenticity—shape her definition of success: not by what she accomplishes, but by who she becomes and how she impacts the lives around her.
