New York, SC 10020

Sandra Gaus is a Managing Consultant at Forvis Mazars US, where she leads people, process, and technology initiatives for the firm’s New York Metro practice unit. With an accounting and finance background, she focuses on operational efficiency, post-merger integration, and strategic growth. Over the past two years, Sandra has played a key role in supporting integration efforts following the firm’s global merger, helping streamline processes, enhance collaboration, and drive data-informed decision-making. Her work spans project and client relationship management, internal communications, recruitment support, and continuous improvement initiatives—often with no two days looking the same.

Prior to joining Forvis Mazars, Sandra spent nearly five years at EY in New York City, where she advanced from intern to Senior Consultant within the People Advisory Services practice. There, she managed global mobility projects, led high-profile client engagements, and guided teams in delivering complex, cross-border tax solutions. A graduate of Seton Hall University, she earned both her B.S. in Accounting and M.S. in Professional Accounting summa cum laude on a full academic scholarship, completing both degrees in four years while working full time—an achievement that reflects her discipline and drive.

Born in Poland and raised between cultures, Sandra credits her resilience and work ethic to her upbringing as an immigrant and first-generation college graduate. Now based in the Charleston, South Carolina area, she works largely remotely while maintaining close ties to her New York team. Outside of her professional role, she is passionate about running, skiing, and health and fitness, and she remains committed to community service through organizations such as Bridges Outreach and Habitat for Humanity. A leadership advocate and mentor, Sandra brings energy, empathy, and innovation to every space she enters.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute much of my success to my childhood and upbringing. When my family moved to the United States, I had to quickly build resilience while navigating significant change, from language barriers to adapting to a new culture. Being raised by a single mother at a young age also required me to step into a more independent role early on.

Her strength and determination shaped me profoundly. She made sure we never felt like we were lacking, even during times when things may have been difficult. Her perseverance, grace, and work ethic instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility, resilience, and drive.

Looking back now as an adult, I recognize how challenging those years must have been, but I wouldn’t change any of it. Those early experiences built the foundation of who I am today and gave me the strength to navigate challenges with confidence and purpose.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

As I prepare to welcome my daughter, I find myself reflecting on the advice I would one day give her. It would be simple: think boldly, trust yourself, and never shrink your ambitions. The bigger you allow yourself to dream, the further you’ll ultimately go.

That same message is what I would share with young women entering this industry. Dream big and don’t let fear stop you from trying new things. Fear is often the only thing standing between where you are and where you want to be. There are more opportunities than ever before, and with focus, determination, and belief in yourself, you can achieve far more than you might initially think possible.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in accounting today is an increasingly complex and fast-evolving landscape. Globalization has intensified the demands of the tax environment, busy seasons remain rigorous, and the rapid rise of AI is reshaping how we operate. At the same time, we are working within a cost-sensitive climate that requires greater efficiency and precision than ever before.

The challenge lies in staying current on regulatory changes and emerging technologies so we can continue to serve clients at the highest level, while also maintaining balance and avoiding burnout. It requires thoughtful prioritization, strategic focus, and a willingness to continuously adapt. At the same time, these shifts present tremendous opportunity for innovation and growth for those willing to embrace change.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide both my work and personal life are faith, resilience, independence, a strong commitment to family, and a dedication to serving my community. These principles shape the way I approach challenges, build relationships, and contribute meaningfully to the teams and communities I am part of.
