Her Story
About Sandra
I've been working in asset-based lending for nearly 14 years now. I started at Wells Fargo Bank where I spent 10 years doing this work, and now I'm in my fourth year at Webster Bank. In asset-based lending, I work with clients who borrow based on their assets - things like accounts receivable, inventory, equipment, and real estate. My role involves verifying the paperwork and files that clients provide to determine how much we can lend them. It's really about factoring - clients sell us their accounts receivable or inventory, and we advance them funds based on those assets. Every day is different, and I focus on making sure everything is correct so we can help our clients get the lending they need. I try to be the good guy and make sure everything is in order so we can approve their loans.

01What do you attribute your success to?
First and foremost, I attribute my success to the Lord. Without him, I wouldn't be where I am. I also credit how I was raised - my mom pushed us hard, and we worked really hard as kids. From doing chores at home to helping my dad build our house brick by brick, carrying bricks and moving wood. While other kids spent their holidays doing what they wanted, we were weeding fields of potatoes and vegetables. I used to go to my grandma's and pick wild blueberries in the forest - we'd leave at 6 o'clock in the morning and I'd pick 8 to 10 liters throughout the day, then we'd go to the market to sell them. That hard work built my foundation and taught me to give my all in everything I do. Watching my parents work really, really hard and achieve things - like my dad building our entire house from bottom to top - that formed my view and perspective on work. If you want to achieve something with honest money, you have to work hard. I work as if nobody is watching, and I work not for somebody else but as if I'm working for myself, because the Lord Above is always watching.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say, work hard and go above and beyond of what you are asked. Don't work just for the paycheck, and don't just do as much as is asked. Because the boss may not be watching and noticing, but the Lord is. So at some point, you're gonna be rewarded. Work hard, go above and beyond of what you're asked, and trust the Lord. Strive for the best. Give all you got. Somebody will notice. No matter what, no matter how hard it is, just put your trust in the Lord. Work as if nobody is watching, and work not for somebody else but as if you're working for yourself.
