Sandra Mihalik is a credentialing professional with more than four decades of experience in the radiology and healthcare industry. As Credentialing Manager at SDI Radiology and Associates, PA, in Tampa, Florida, she plays a vital role in ensuring radiologists meet the qualifications and requirements necessary to provide care within hospital systems and payer networks. As a credentialing delegate, Sandra is responsible for primary source verification, reviewing provider qualifications, coordinating onboarding and reappointments, and ensuring that medical licenses, certifications, education, work history, and other professional credentials are accurately verified. Throughout her career, Sandra has developed extensive expertise in physician credentialing, medical staff services, and radiology operations. She began her journey in radiology as a medical transcriptionist and later transitioned into credentialing, bringing a strong understanding of clinical documentation, provider needs, and healthcare compliance. Her work includes collaborating with physicians, hospitals, credentialing organizations, and regulatory agencies to support timely approvals, maintain accurate records, and help providers navigate complex credentialing processes. She views her role as a “gatekeeper” for patient safety, ensuring that qualified providers are properly vetted while making the credentialing experience as efficient as possible for physicians and healthcare organizations. Sandra holds an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences in Medical Office Administration from the Community College of Beaver County and has continued to grow through professional involvement and education. She is a member of the Florida Association of Medical Staff Services and the Tampa Bay Association of Medical Staff Services, where she contributes to advancing the profession and supporting healthcare education. Sandra has served on the FAMSS Education Committee and was recognized with the Sylvia B. Davis Award for her contributions to the organization. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to enjoying what I do, being diligent, and taking pride in making sure my work is completed effectively. I believe that being dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to helping the company operate efficiently has been a key part of my professional growth.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to gather as much information as possible and never stop learning. Continuous learning helps you grow, adapt, and become more effective in your role.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is that it is a great field with many opportunities. Stay curious, be willing to learn, and continue developing your skills—you can build a rewarding career.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is getting timely responses from providers, especially through email communication. It has also created an opportunity to be more resourceful by using different methods of communication, such as texting or calling, to ensure things continue moving forward.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, continuous learning, accountability, and collaboration. I believe in being honest, following through on my commitments, and treating others with respect. I enjoy learning new skills and finding ways to improve, whether that's solving challenges at work or growing personally. I also value teamwork and open communication because I believe the best results come from people supporting one another and working toward a common goal. These values help me build strong relationships, stay dependable, and consistently deliver my best.
