Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Never give up. It may sound cliché, but it’s the truth that has carried me through every season of my journey. I was taught that setbacks and delays aren’t signs to stop—they’re shaping you into a stronger, more talented, and more gifted creator. Every obstacle is preparation.

I was always reminded to keep going, to stay committed to the vision, and to keep pushing forward, because the doors meant for you will open in time. But if you stop, you’ll never know what the end result of your purpose could have been.

So I press on. I keep creating. I keep showing up. I continue to put my work into the world for my viewers and for everyone who believes in and supports me. Because purpose lives on the other side of persistence—and quitting is the only way to never reach it.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

When God gives you a vision, trust it. Don’t second-guess the ideas placed in your spirit. Move with them. Flow with them. You never know how far that “small” or “bright” idea can go, or what God intends to do through it.

Whatever idea comes to your mind, don’t overthink it—obedience is more powerful than perfection. Step out in faith and allow yourself to pursue what you prayed for. When the opportunity shows up, recognize it as God’s direction, guiding you toward your purpose.

Always believe in your vision. Always honor your dreams. And remember: faith requires action. Go with what God gives you, trust the process, and let Him do the rest.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I currently face as an independent filmmaker is securing placement for my work on major streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV. While audiences can see trailers and promotional content online, today’s film industry requires filmmakers to go through formal distribution channels for projects to be fully accessible on these platforms.

Finding the right distributor who aligns with both my vision and the business goals of my projects has been a significant challenge—particularly with my latest film, Julia Styles. This romantic comedy explores the journey of finding love after 50 as a successful, powerful woman. Although the film was released in November, navigating the distribution process to place it on major platforms has proven difficult.

While I could easily upload the project to platforms like YouTube or Facebook, as a professional filmmaker, that is not the ultimate goal. Independent films require access to monetized platforms in order to recoup the financial investment, labor, and creative energy poured into each project. The challenge lies in ensuring that my work is not only seen, but also positioned in a way that allows me to reap the harvest of my investment and continue creating meaningful, high-quality content.

Despite these obstacles, I remain committed to pushing forward, trusting the process, and advocating for independent filmmakers to have greater access and equity within the distribution space.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In my personal life, family is my foundation. I deeply value my family because they are my greatest supporters—offering unconditional love, honest feedback, and unwavering encouragement. Their support grounds me and gives me strength, and their opinions truly matter to me.

Professionally, I place a high value on integrity, loyalty, and commitment. When I collaborate with others, I expect the same level of dedication that I bring to the table. Successful partnerships require mutual effort, trust, and accountability. Too often in collaborative spaces, one person gives their all while others contribute only a fraction—but true collaboration means showing up fully and consistently.

Loyalty is essential in this industry, and commitment is non-negotiable. I believe in standing by the people I work with, honoring our shared vision, and putting in the work required to bring projects to life with excellence. These values guide how I work, who I work with, and the standards I uphold in every project I take on.
