Her Story

About Sandy

I started my career in non-for-profits working as a customer service rep during undergrad. I realized my calling was to service others and help people with their needs. After working in healthcare non-profit HR, I progressed from HR coordinator to senior consultant and HR business partner roles. Recently laid off in February, I chose to launch my own consulting business SGW Enterprises to bring empathy and a human-centered approach to HR services.

Ten minutes with Sandy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance and consistency. I am the daughter of Haitian immigrants and the first born here in the United States. Seeing my parents struggle but maintain education for their children gives me no choice but to keep going and not give up.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Remain authentic. Show up unapologetically as yourself. Never compromise your integrity. Always be confident and show up as your authentic self. If not welcomed, go where you are welcome. Maintain self-love.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges include AI entering HR, seasoned professionals not transitioning out, burnout causing professionals to leave the field, lack of visibility. Opportunities include newbies bringing ideas, using AI for policies and processes, more recognition for diverse voices, creation of ERGs for caretakers, LGBTQ, and diversity support.
