Sara Clark is a driven and accomplished Senior Field Services Sales Representative at Ellucian, a leading provider of technology solutions for higher education. Based in Cary, North Carolina, Sara partners with colleges and universities to help them leverage Ellucian’s innovative platforms to enhance student success and institutional efficiency. Her journey within the company has been marked by rapid advancement—earning a promotion in under two years—and recognition for her exceptional performance, including the prestigious President’s Club Award, which she celebrated with a trip to Iceland.
Before joining Ellucian, Sara built a strong foundation in communication, mentorship, and relationship management through her work in both academia and healthcare. She served as a Medical Device Sales Representative at Threshold Medical, LLC, where she honed her skills in client engagement and product demonstration. Earlier in her career, she worked as a Learning Specialist for Marshall University’s football program, supporting high-risk student-athletes in achieving academic success. Her educational background includes a Master of Education in Secondary Education and Teaching from Marshall University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government from West Virginia University, where she was also a competitive cheerleader.
A passionate advocate for women in business and technology, Sara is deeply committed to mentorship and leadership development. She aspires to move into management within Ellucian, where she can continue empowering others to grow and excel. Outside of her professional life, Sara enjoys running and spending time with her three children, finding balance between her career achievements and her family life. What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to persistence, adaptability, and strong relationship-building. My experience working with student-athletes taught me empathy and resilience, while my journey through education, sales, and technology has strengthened my ability to connect with people and solve problems effectively.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is, “Your path doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s—just keep moving forward.” This perspective has helped me embrace career transitions with confidence and clarity, trusting that each step contributes to my growth and purpose.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to build your network, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. This field is about growth, not perfection. I encourage women to see EdTech not only as a technology space but as a community built on collaboration, learning, and empowerment.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in our field right now is the rise of AI in education. While schools are navigating budget cuts and policy uncertainty, AI is creating new possibilities for improving student engagement and institutional efficiency. At Ellucian, we’re focused on ensuring that AI tools are used to enhance—not replace—critical thinking and the human element that makes education meaningful.

The most important values to me—both in my work and personal life—are integrity, collaboration, and continuous learning. I believe in staying true to my word, building strong and meaningful relationships, and always striving for growth in everything I do, both personally and professionally.
