Her Story

About Sara

Sara DeCresce is the founder and creative force behind Sara's Smile Swim, a contemporary swimwear brand she launched in 2026 after gaining valuable experience in the fashion industry. Drawing on her passion for design, innovation, and consumer experience, she personally designs each collection with a focus on seamless construction, elevated essentials, and timeless silhouettes. Her mission is to create swimwear that empowers women by combining the comfort and support of shapewear with sophisticated, luxury-inspired design, helping every customer feel confident and comfortable.

Sara began her fashion career during the final semester of her undergraduate studies, quickly building expertise through internships in showroom operations, fashion marketing, brand relations, and fashion technology. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from New York University, where she studied Art History and Dance while serving as President of Alpha Epsilon Phi and Operations Chair for New York Dance Marathon. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in Luxury Marketing at New York University, further strengthening her expertise in branding, consumer behavior, and luxury fashion. In addition to leading her growing business, Sara is also a certified yoga instructor, reflecting her commitment to wellness, balance, and empowering others.

Much of Sara's entrepreneurial mindset has been shaped by her father's advice to "run your own race," encouraging her to remain focused on her personal vision and long-term goals rather than comparing herself to others. Beyond her professional endeavors, she is passionate about fostering community through local pop-up events in Monmouth County, New Jersey, where she connects with customers and fellow creatives while supporting other small businesses. She is equally committed to giving back through philanthropic initiatives, including supporting Heart 9-11, an organization dedicated to honoring first responders and their families, where her father serves on the board. As she continues to grow Sara's Smile Swim, Sara remains dedicated to blending creativity, entrepreneurship, and community impact while establishing herself as an emerging leader in the luxury fashion industry.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sara

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the mindset my father has instilled in me: run your own race. That advice has become the foundation of how I approach both my personal and professional life. It reminds me to stay focused on my own goals, remain true to my vision, and avoid comparing my journey to others. By maintaining a clear sense of purpose and making decisions based on what will best serve my long-term growth, I have been able to build resilience, stay motivated, and pursue opportunities that align with my values and aspirations.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received came from my father: "Run your own race." Those simple words have shaped the way I approach my career and life. They remind me to stay focused on my own path, trust the process, and measure success by my personal growth rather than by comparing myself to others. That mindset has given me the confidence to pursue my goals with purpose, resilience, and authenticity.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the fashion industry is to stop waiting for the perfect time—because it rarely exists. If you have an idea and you're passionate about it, take the first step now. Skills can be learned and experience comes with time, but genuine passion is something that can't be taught or forced. Trust your instincts, embrace the learning process, and don't be afraid to pursue your vision. The sooner you begin, the sooner you'll grow into the entrepreneur and professional you aspire to become.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities and challenges in the fashion industry today is designing for a broad and diverse demographic rather than a single age group or body type. My goal is to create swimwear that makes every woman feel confident, comfortable, and empowered, regardless of her shape or size. Developing designs that combine exceptional fit, comfort, and timeless style for a wide range of customers requires thoughtful innovation, but it also presents an exciting opportunity to make fashion more inclusive and accessible.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me, both professionally and personally, are authenticity, gratitude, and staying true to my own path. I genuinely love the life I’ve built and wouldn’t change it for the world because it reflects my passions and purpose. I believe in running your own race, maintaining laser focus on your goals, and defining success on your own terms. By staying committed to my vision rather than comparing myself to others, I’m able to approach every opportunity with confidence, purpose, and a deep appreciation for the journey.
