Her Story
About Sara
Sara Harrison works in case management within government services disaster recovery in St. Petersburg, Florida. She manages cases and serves as the primary point of contact for applicants, conducting evaluations in homes, advocating between federal funding sources and the city, and providing emotional support as applicants rebuild after hurricanes. Harrison began her professional path with pharmacology technician training as a lab tech, followed by work in physical therapy and several years teaching yoga. She attributes her focus on human relations to life experiences and a desire to be of maximum service, which led her to join a new disaster recovery project from its inception. In addition to her professional role, Harrison volunteers with hospice programs through No One Dies Alone partnering with Accent Care, supports the We Run for Ali nonprofit, and serves as a vocalist on her church worship team. Her values center on a foundation built on God, loving others, and being of service, with her main motivations being her faith and her daughter.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My main motivations are God and my daughter. I want her to be proud of me and see my strength coming from God.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Enjoy what you're doing and make sure it's purposeful. That's what's sustainable in the long run.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Take the time that you need for yourself to fully understand what you're getting yourself into. Be real with people, listen, and take care of yourself so you can come from a settled place.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The fast-changing pace and contractual nature of the work makes it uncertain and not a permanent 9-to-5 position, but my faith guides my opportunities.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
A foundation built on God, loving others as Christ loved the Church, and being of service to others.
