What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to resilience, purpose, and the lessons learned from surviving unimaginable adversity. As a survivor of the Cambodian killing fields, I grew up understanding that tomorrow is never promised, a truth that has guided every chapter of my life and professional journey. Learning a new language, adapting to a new culture, and navigating spaces where I was often perceived as the outsider taught me to turn perceived limitations into strengths. My professional calling emerged from a sense of responsibility, to give voice to those who cannot, and to show that healing and resilience are possible even after profound trauma. Over the past two decades, I have honed my craft as an inspirational speaker, author, and wellness event planner, sharing my story through small community gatherings, corporate engagements, and large wellness events, conducting ten events in 2025 alone in Florida, particularly in the St. Petersburg area. Writing my book, How I Survived the Killing Field, further amplified my message, allowing audiences to connect deeply with a lived testament of endurance, faith, and renewal. Recognized with the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, I remain committed to designing events and initiatives that foster mental resilience, emotional healing, spiritual grounding, and meaningful connection, reminding every participant that they are not alone.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to believe in your message and speak from the heart. Practice wherever and whenever you can, because consistent effort helps you discover your unique voice and style. Even if you start with small opportunities, those experiences will build your confidence and open doors to larger events where you can reach more people and make a greater impact. Take advantage of available resources, seek out mentors, and actively connect with your community. Facilitate networking and collaboration, because meaningful relationships not only support your growth but also amplify the positive influence you can have on others.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is navigating spaces where English is not my first language, which can require extra effort to communicate with clarity and confidence. Another challenge is building brand recognition as a newer speaker in the industry, establishing trust, and demonstrating the unique value I bring. At the same time, these challenges present opportunities: the ability to connect with diverse audiences, bring fresh perspectives, and create a distinct personal brand that resonates. With persistence, practice, and intentional networking, these hurdles can become stepping stones to meaningful impact and growth.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are love, kindness, compassion, and inclusion. I am passionate about supporting others who have overcome enormous obstacles and about building genuine relationships that go beyond networking, fostering connections that sustain mental well-being and friendship. My commitment to service extends beyond the stage, as I am actively involved with organizations such as Better Living for Seniors and the Tampa Bay Research Institute. I remain deeply rooted in my Christian faith and church community, which has been my anchor through loss, uncertainty, and renewal, guiding how I lead, serve, and inspire others.
