Her Story
About Sarah
I'm responsible for enrolling all of our patients at our health tech startup, so I do outreach to patients, enrolling them, and making sure that they're having a good experience with our team. On the functional operational side, I'm making sure that our outcomes metrics are being measured, and then thinking about how we're going to scale our business, since we are a startup. We're a health tech startup called Pom Health (P-O-M Health), and we are rebranding to Joyce Health (J-O-Y-C-E). We partner with physicians and health practices to offer nutrition services, so we have a team of registered dietitians who work one-on-one with patients, but it's really a full, wraparound customized service for them. We have 24-7 support through our tech platform, really allowing people to get a better experience. We're meeting them where they're at with their healthcare journey and their nutrition journey. One of my roles is tracking our clinical outcomes, and so seeing the reduction in blood pressure for our patients who didn't want to go on a blood pressure medicine, but now are really making those changes is super fulfilling.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sarah
01What do you attribute your success to?
Truly, as cliche as it sounds, the dozens of women in my life who have inspired me and allowed me to go for it and to want it. I think of yoga teachers that I've had. I think of professional mentors that I've had. I think of my mom and my aunt, and my grandma, and, you know, really saying, whatever you want, go for it. You're driven, so work for it and go get it.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
There's never any harm in sending the email or making the introduction. So, always go up, introduce yourself, send the cold email. The worst that can happen is a no.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
There might not be a seat at that table for you, but you're always welcome to pull up a chair. And then when you get to that table, don't forget to invite other women, because that's how we all get to show up.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The opportunity is to create a product that we're really proud of, and really fill that need. We have a fantastic female founder, who I'm lucky enough to call a mentor now, and we're trying to fill the gap. Women's nutrition hasn't been studied a ton, and so being able to meet those women in menopause, post-menopause nutrition, is just one of the many services that we offer. But I think the challenge we face is proving to people that this is important, and that this work needs to be done, despite the lack of evidence in the field.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I would say honesty and tenacity. Being grounded in what you want, what your own morals and values are, what your desires, what drives you, but then also letting that drive you. So having the tenacity to go get what you want and build it if it doesn't exist.
