Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of hard work, dedication, and the incredible opportunities I’ve been fortunate to receive. As a first-generation college graduate, I have always been driven to excel and make the most of every learning experience. My time at the University of Kentucky was marked by meaningful accomplishments, including serving as a Graduate School Teaching Assistant and receiving a full-tuition scholarship.

Beyond academics, I embraced opportunities to grow and contribute within the community. I was an active member of the Interior Design Student Association (IDSA) and the UK Snowcats, experiences that not only broadened my skills but also strengthened my teamwork, leadership, and creative problem-solving abilities.

These experiences have shaped my approach to both education and professional growth, reinforcing the value of perseverance, engagement, and giving back to the communities I am part of.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received has come from several influential mentors in my life. My parents, who didn’t have the opportunity to complete their own college education, instilled in me the importance of perseverance and the value of education. My sister has also been a constant source of guidance and support. Additionally, mentors such as Dr. Elizabeth Easter and Helen Turner have provided invaluable professional guidance, helping me navigate challenges and inspiring me to strive for excellence in my career.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to be confident and fearless in pursuing your goals. Don’t doubt yourself—you’ve already accomplished so much to get to this point. While programs in this field can be rigorous, trust in your abilities, advocate for yourself, and remember that your dedication and talent will allow you to thrive and make a meaningful impact.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are creativity, dedication, and balance. Professionally, I take pride in delivering high-quality work under pressure—one example being completing a full Christmas design for Bluegrass Hospitality’s restaurants in just 48 hours, which received outstanding feedback.

Personally, I value adventure, connection, and time spent with loved ones. I enjoy exploring the outdoors through hiking and underground kayaking, staying active with groups like the UK Snowcats, and cherishing moments with my family. These experiences help me stay grounded, inspired, and motivated in all aspects of my life.
