Her Story
About Sarah
Sarah Bauch serves as the Marketing and Community Outreach coordinator for RJ Groiner, a third-generation family-owned HVAC and plumbing company in the Pocono Mountains. She has held this position for three years after transitioning from a twelve-year career as a professional stage manager. In her current role, Sarah manages all social media posts, YouTube videos, podcast production, email blasts, graphic design, billboard graphics, and data analytics while organizing community support initiatives for local fire departments and the Awesome Animal Shelter. Prior to joining the family business, she worked as production stage manager at Cornell University, where she also led the stage management lab for students. Sarah holds three degrees: an undergraduate degree in technical theater from a small state school, an MFA in Stage and Production Management from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Master's of Education from the same small state school. In 2022 she received the National Stage Management Award. She attributes her ability to pivot successfully to the problem-solving and organizational skills developed in theater, combined with her mother's encouragement and her own creativity.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My mom's unwavering belief in me that I can do really hard things even when I don't believe I can. My creativity from having a wicked imagination as an only child entertaining myself.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
If you're on a track that you're not happy with, never be afraid to turn around and try a new track. Everything you've done before stays with you; you just get creative in how you reuse it.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be a sponge to new information. Never stop learning and never be afraid to learn. Don't be afraid to ask questions to get more information to make informed decisions.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges: Falling out of love with original career path and feeling stuck; finding work immediately after graduation. Opportunities: Travel through theater contracts; teaching experiences; future sponsorships like high school football scoreboards.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Community and kindness. Remembering we're all in this together, working together, having fun together, helping each other. Kindness overall.
