She advises young women entering the industry to recognize that no job is too small, to soak up everything they can, ask questions, work hard, remain ambitious, and decide for themselves what they can achieve. As a young woman in a male-dominated field, she has faced challenges with being taken seriously but sees great opportunities in the increasing number of roles written for young women.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sarah
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute everything to my parents and my older sister for the constant level of support and love, and for taking me to all the shows when I was little. They gave me the most nurturing environment to be whatever I wanted to be as long as I was truly passionate about it.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
There's no job too little when you're starting out, and soak everything up that you can, ask questions. There is room for you in this industry and you have to pave that way for yourself sometimes. Work hard, be smart, remain ambitious, and especially when you're younger, don't let anyone tell you what you can be. Decide that for yourself.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Being a young woman in a male-dominated field is always a struggle. People tend not to take you as seriously because of your age and gender. On the flip side, there are lots of roles being written for young women, which is great, and a plethora of opportunities for younger women on stage and on camera.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Respect across the board, trust, communication, and loyalty.
