Sarah McLean, PhD, RN, MDiv

Sarah McLean, PhD, RN, MDiv is a dedicated healthcare professional and pastoral counselor whose career bridges nursing, case management, and faith-based leadership. She is the founder of MAES Consulting Services, LLC, where she provides pastoral counseling and guidance, drawing on her extensive clinical and theological training to support individuals and families in times of need.
With nearly four decades of experience in healthcare, Sarah has served in diverse roles ranging from case management nursing at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Grady Health System to psychiatric nursing support at Advance Therapeutic Concepts, Inc. Her expertise includes patient advocacy, care coordination, insurance navigation, and complex case management, particularly for pediatric, adult, and mental health populations. She has also worked nationally as a Nurse Educator, training healthcare teams on medical devices, safety systems, and clinical best practices.
Sarah’s educational background reflects her dual commitment to health and ministry.
She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Christian Leadership from Destiny Bible College, a Master of Divinity and Practical Theology with a focus in Pastoral Care from Columbia Theological Seminary. She is both a Registered Nurse (RN) and a Certified Case Manager (CCM). She has combined this foundation with advanced certification in Christian counseling to serve as both a clinical advocate and a spiritual guide.
Throughout her career, Sarah has been recognized for her unique ability to integrate compassion, leadership, and problem-solving in service to others. Whether coordinating care for medically complex patients, mentoring nursing professionals, or providing spiritual counseling, she is committed to improving the well-being of those she serves. What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my desire, hunger, drive, and much prayer. These qualities have kept me focused and motivated, pushing me to achieve goals that might have seemed out of reach at times.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to do what you love and you will never feel like you have worked a day in your life. This guidance has reminded me to align my work with my passions and to find joy in what I do every day.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
To young women entering this industry, I would say: pursue what you truly want to do and love. Don’t settle for what others expect of you—follow your passions and let them guide your career path.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I recognize the challenges in this industry, including being overworked, underpaid, dealing with management issues, and the risk of burnout. Navigating these obstacles requires resilience, clear boundaries, and a commitment to personal well-being.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value prayer, integrity, and morality both personally and professionally. Being truthful, kind, and ethical in all my interactions is central to who I am and how I conduct not only my career, but my personal life.
